You are the Hope of Israel, the One Who saves it in time of trouble. Why are You like a stranger in the land? Why are You like a traveler who has set up his tent for the night? Why are You like a man surprised, like a strong man who cannot save? Yet You are among us, O Lord, and we are called by Your name. Do not leave us!”

10 The Lord says this about these people, “They have loved to go their own way. They have not held their feet back. So the Lord is not pleased with them. Now He will remember their wrong-doing and punish their sins.”

why are you like a stranger in the land,
    like a traveler who stays only a night?
Why are you like a man taken by surprise,
    like a warrior powerless to save?(D)
You are among(E) us, Lord,
    and we bear your name;(F)
    do not forsake(G) us!

10 This is what the Lord says about this people:

“They greatly love to wander;
    they do not restrain their feet.(H)
So the Lord does not accept(I) them;
    he will now remember(J) their wickedness
    and punish them for their sins.”(K)
