Lying Prophets

¹³ But, “Ah, Lord Yahweh!” I said, “Behold, the prophets are saying to them, ‘You ^(A)will not see the sword nor will you have famine, but I will give you true ^(B)peace in this place.’” ¹⁴ Then Yahweh said to me, “The ^(C)prophets are prophesying lies in My name. ^(D)I have neither sent them nor commanded them nor spoken to them; they are prophesying to you a ^(E)vision of lies, divination, futility, and the deception of their own hearts. ¹⁵ Therefore thus says Yahweh concerning the prophets who are prophesying in My name, although it was not I who sent them—yet they keep saying, ‘There will be no sword or famine in this land’—^(F)by that sword and famine those prophets shall ^[a]meet their end! ¹⁶ The people also to whom they are prophesying will be ^(G)thrown out into the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and there will be no one to ^(H)bury them—neither them, nor their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters—for I will ^(I)pour out their own evil on them.

⁶ They behold ^(A)worthlessness and lying divination who are saying, ‘Yahweh declares,’ when Yahweh has not sent them; ^(B)yet they wait for the establishing of their word.

²³ therefore, you women will no longer see ^(A)worthless visions or practice divination, and I will ^(B)deliver My people out of your hand. Thus you will ^(C)know that I am Yahweh.”

² “And it will be in that day,” declares Yahweh of hosts, “that I will ^(A)cut off the names of the idols from the land, and they will no longer be remembered; and I will also cause the ^(B)prophets and the ^(C)unclean spirit to pass away from the land. ³ And it will be that if anyone still ^(D)prophesies, then his father and mother who gave birth to him will say to him, ‘You shall ^(E)not live, for you have spoken ^(F)falsely in the name of Yahweh’; and his ^(G)father and mother who gave birth to him will pierce him through when he prophesies. ⁴ And it will be in that day, that the prophets will each be ^(H)ashamed of his vision when he prophesies, and they will not put on a ^(I)hairy mantle in order to deceive;
