De Heer bemoedigt Baruch
45 Dit is wat ik van de Heer moest zeggen tegen Baruch, toen Baruch alles in een boekrol had opgeschreven. In die tijd was Jojakim vier jaar koning van Juda. 2 Ik zei tegen Baruch: "Dit zegt de Heer, de God van Israël, tegen jou, Baruch: 3 Jij zegt: 'Verschrikkelijk! Ik kan er niet meer tegen! De Heer heeft mij zoveel pijn en verdriet bezorgd. Ik heb genoeg van alle ellende. Nooit heb ik rust!' 4 Maar dit zegt de Heer: Wat Ik had opgebouwd, breek Ik nu Zelf af. En wat Ik had geplant, ruk Ik nu Zelf uit. Dat doe Ik met dit hele land. Ik zal alle bewoners van dit land vernietigen. 5 Zou jij dan voor jezelf grote dingen verlangen? Doe dat niet! Want Ik ga het hele land treffen met mijn rampen, zegt de Heer. Maar Ik zal ervoor zorgen dat jij in leven blijft, waar je ook gaat."

45 The word that Jeremiah the prophet spake unto Baruch the son of Neriah, when he had written these words in a book at the mouth of Jeremiah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, saying,
2 Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, unto thee, O Baruch:
3 Thou didst say, Woe is me now! for the Lord hath added grief to my sorrow; I fainted in my sighing, and I find no rest.
4 Thus shalt thou say unto him, The Lord saith thus; Behold, that which I have built will I break down, and that which I have planted I will pluck up, even this whole land.
5 And seekest thou great things for thyself? seek them not: for, behold, I will bring evil upon all flesh, saith the Lord: but thy life will I give unto thee for a prey in all places whither thou goest.

For the Lord has added sorrow to my pain. (E)I am weary with my groaning, (F)and I find no rest.’ 4 Thus shall you say to him, Thus says the Lord: (G)Behold, what I have built I am breaking down, and what I have planted I am plucking up—that is, the whole land. 5 And (H)do you seek great things for yourself? Seek them not, for behold, (I)I am bringing disaster upon all flesh, declares the Lord. But I will give you (J)your life as a prize of war in all places to which you may go.”

45 Detta är det ord som profeten Jeremia talade till Baruk, Nerias son, när denne efter Jeremias diktamen tecknade upp dessa tal i en bok, under Jojakims, Josias sons, Juda konungs, fjärde regeringsår; han sade:
2 Så säger HERREN, Israels Gud, om dig, Baruk:
3 Du säger: »Ve mig, ty HERREN har lagt ny sorg till min förra plåga! Jag är så trött av suckande och finner ingen ro.»
4 Men så skall du svara honom: Så säger HERREN: Se, vad jag har byggt upp, det måste jag riva ned, och vad jag har planterat, det måste jag rycka upp; och detta gäller hela jorden.
5 Och du begär stora ting för dig! Begär icke något sådant; ty se, jag skall låta olycka komma över all kött, säger HERREN, men dig skall jag låta vinna ditt liv såsom ett byte, till vilken ort du än må gå.

45 When Baruch(A) son of Neriah(B) wrote on a scroll(C) the words Jeremiah the prophet dictated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim(D) son of Josiah king of Judah, Jeremiah said this to Baruch: 2 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch: 3 You said, ‘Woe(E) to me! The Lord has added sorrow(F) to my pain;(G) I am worn out with groaning(H) and find no rest.’(I) 4 But the Lord has told me to say to you, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot(J) what I have planted,(K) throughout the earth.(L) 5 Should you then seek great(M) things for yourself? Do not seek them.(N) For I will bring disaster(O) on all people,(P) declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape(Q) with your life.’”(R)
