Herren tillrättavisar Baruk
45 Detta är det budskap Jeremia gav Baruk under kung Jojakims, Josias sons, fjärde regeringsår, sedan Baruk hade skrivit ner alla Guds budskap, efter Jeremias diktamen:
2 Baruk! Herren, Israels Gud, säger så här till dig:
3 Du har sagt: 'Ve mig! Har jag inte nog med bekymmer? Och nu har Herren gett mig ännu fler! Jag är trött på mina egna suckar och kan inte få någon ro.'
4 Men säg till Baruk att jag ska riva ner vad jag har byggt upp och rycka upp det jag har planterat. Så ska ske med hela jorden.
5 Vänta dig inte några särskilda förmåner! Men även om jag låter olyckor komma över alla dessa människor, ska jag bevara dig vid liv vart du än går.

A Message to Baruch
45 When Baruch(A) son of Neriah(B) wrote on a scroll(C) the words Jeremiah the prophet dictated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim(D) son of Josiah king of Judah, Jeremiah said this to Baruch: 2 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch: 3 You said, ‘Woe(E) to me! The Lord has added sorrow(F) to my pain;(G) I am worn out with groaning(H) and find no rest.’(I) 4 But the Lord has told me to say to you, ‘This is what the Lord says: I will overthrow what I have built and uproot(J) what I have planted,(K) throughout the earth.(L) 5 Should you then seek great(M) things for yourself? Do not seek them.(N) For I will bring disaster(O) on all people,(P) declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape(Q) with your life.’”(R)

45 O profeta Jeremias transmitiu esta mensagem a Baruque, filho de Nerias, no quarto ano do reinado de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias,[a] depois que Baruque escreveu tudo que Jeremias havia ditado: 2 “Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel, a você, Baruque: 3 Você disse: ‘Estou cercado de aflições! Será que já não sofri o suficiente? E agora o Senhor acrescentou ainda mais dor! Estou exausto de tanto gemer e não encontro descanso’.
4 “Baruque, assim diz o Senhor: ‘Destruirei esta nação que edifiquei; arrancarei o que plantei. 5 Você procura grandes coisas para si mesmo? Não faça isso! Trarei calamidade sobre todo este povo; a você, porém, darei sua vida como recompensa aonde quer que vá. Eu, o Senhor, falei!’”.
