Nebukadnessar intar Jerusalem

(2 Kung 25:1-12; Jer 52:4-16)

39 Det var i den tionde månaden under kung Sidkias nionde regeringsår, som kung Nebukadnessar och hela hans armé drog mot Jerusalem och belägrade det. 2 I Sidkias elfte regeringsår, på den nionde dagen i fjärde månaden, stormades stadsmuren. 3 Den babyloniske kungens furstar kom in och satte sig i Mittporten: Nergalsareser, Samgar, Nebusarsekim, överste hovmannen, Nergalsareser, överste magern, och alla den babyloniske kungens furstar.[a]

4 När judakungen Sidkia och hans soldater såg dem, flydde de och lämnade staden under natten, genom den kungliga trädgården och porten mellan de två murarna. Man tog vägen mot Jordandalen. 5 Men den kaldeiska armén förföljde dem och tog Sidkia till fånga på Jerikoslätten. De grep honom och förde honom till Nebukadnessar, kungen av Babylonien, som var i Rivla i Hamat, där denne dömde honom. 6 Den babyloniske kungen lät avrätta Sidkias söner i Rivla inför hans ögon, likaså lät den babyloniske kungen avrätta alla de förnäma männen i Juda. 7 Sedan lät han sticka ut ögonen på Sidkia och band honom med kopparkedjor och förde bort honom till Babylon.

8 Kaldéerna brände ner kungapalatset och folkets hus och rev ner Jerusalems murar. 9 Resten av folket som var kvar i staden och de deserterade fördes bort till Babylonien av Nebusaradan, befälhavaren för livgardet, likaså återstoden av befolkningen.[b] 10 Nebusaradan, befälhavaren för livgardet, lämnade kvar i Juda land bara några av de allra fattigaste, som ingenting hade, och gav dem nu vingårdar och åkrar.

11 Nebukadnessar, kungen av Babylonien, gav Nebusaradan, befälhavaren för livgardet, följande befallning angående Jeremia: 12 ”Ta väl vara på honom, vaka över honom och gör honom inget ont. Ge honom vad han vill ha.” 13 Nebusaradan, befälhavaren för livgardet, och Nebushasban, överste hovmannen, Nergalsareser, överste magern[c], och den babyloniske kungens alla övriga ämbetsmän 14 skickade då efter Jeremia och lät hämta honom från vaktgården. De överlämnade honom till Gedalja, son till Achikam och sonson till Shafan, för att denne skulle föra hem honom[d]. Han fick bo bland folket.

15 Herrens ord kom till Jeremia medan han ännu var kvar som fånge på vaktgården: 16 ”Gå och säg till nubiern Eved-Melek: ’Så säger härskarornas Herre, Israels Gud: Jag ska låta det gå i uppfyllelse som jag talat mot denna stad, till dess olycka, inte lycka, och det ska ske inför dina ögon på den dagen. 17 Men dig ska jag rädda den dagen, säger Herren. Du ska inte överlämnas åt dem du är rädd för. 18 Jag ska låta dig komma undan, du ska inte falla för svärd utan får behålla livet, därför att du förtröstade på mig, säger Herren.’ ”

  1. 39:3 De babyloniska namnen är högst osäkra, huruvida de i vissa fall hör ihop eller är skilda namn. Några av dem kan också vara titlar, men hur de i så fall ska översättas är osäkert. Den enda någorlunda säkerställda kan tänkas vara överste hovmannen. Rav-Mag, som här med en osäker översättning återges ”överste magern” (astrolog/stjärn-/teckentydare), kan också bara vara ett namn. Jfr v. 13.
  2. 39:9 återstoden av befolkningen är i grundtexten identisk med Resten av folket (i början av versen), och det är något osäkert hur denna upprepning ska tolkas. Jfr parallelltexten i 2 Kung 25:11-12.
  3. 39:13 Se not till v. 3.

39 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his army against Jerusalem, and they besieged it.

2 And in the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, the ninth day of the month, the city was broken up.

3 And all the princes of the king of Babylon came in, and sat in the middle gate, even Nergalsharezer, Samgarnebo, Sarsechim, Rabsaris, Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, with all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon.

4 And it came to pass, that when Zedekiah the king of Judah saw them, and all the men of war, then they fled, and went forth out of the city by night, by the way of the king's garden, by the gate betwixt the two walls: and he went out the way of the plain.

5 But the Chaldeans' army pursued after them, and overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho: and when they had taken him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon to Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he gave judgment upon him.

6 Then the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah in Riblah before his eyes: also the king of Babylon slew all the nobles of Judah.

7 Moreover he put out Zedekiah's eyes, and bound him with chains, to carry him to Babylon.

8 And the Chaldeans burned the king's house, and the houses of the people, with fire, and brake down the walls of Jerusalem.

9 Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive into Babylon the remnant of the people that remained in the city, and those that fell away, that fell to him, with the rest of the people that remained.

10 But Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard left of the poor of the people, which had nothing, in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and fields at the same time.

11 Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying,

12 Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee.

13 So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushasban, Rabsaris, and Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, and all the king of Babylon's princes;

14 Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.

15 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jeremiah, while he was shut up in the court of the prison, saying,

16 Go and speak to Ebedmelech the Ethiopian, saying, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring my words upon this city for evil, and not for good; and they shall be accomplished in that day before thee.

17 But I will deliver thee in that day, saith the Lord: and thou shalt not be given into the hand of the men of whom thou art afraid.

18 For I will surely deliver thee, and thou shalt not fall by the sword, but thy life shall be for a prey unto thee: because thou hast put thy trust in me, saith the Lord.

39 1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah(A) king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar(B) king of Babylon marched against Jerusalem with his whole army and laid siege(C) to it. 2 And on the ninth day of the fourth(D) month of Zedekiah’s eleventh year, the city wall(E) was broken through.(F) 3 Then all the officials(G) of the king of Babylon came and took seats in the Middle Gate: Nergal-Sharezer of Samgar, Nebo-Sarsekim a chief officer, Nergal-Sharezer a high official and all the other officials of the king of Babylon. 4 When Zedekiah king of Judah and all the soldiers saw them, they fled; they left the city at night by way of the king’s garden, through the gate between the two walls,(H) and headed toward the Arabah.[a](I)

5 But the Babylonian[b] army pursued them and overtook Zedekiah(J) in the plains of Jericho. They captured(K) him and took him to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon at Riblah(L) in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced sentence on him. 6 There at Riblah the king of Babylon slaughtered the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes and also killed all the nobles(M) of Judah. 7 Then he put out Zedekiah’s eyes(N) and bound him with bronze shackles to take him to Babylon.(O)

8 The Babylonians[c] set fire(P) to the royal palace and the houses of the people and broke down the walls(Q) of Jerusalem. 9 Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard carried into exile to Babylon the people who remained in the city, along with those who had gone over to him,(R) and the rest of the people.(S) 10 But Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard left behind in the land of Judah some of the poor people, who owned nothing; and at that time he gave them vineyards and fields.

11 Now Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had given these orders about Jeremiah through Nebuzaradan commander of the imperial guard: 12 “Take him and look after him; don’t harm(T) him but do for him whatever he asks.” 13 So Nebuzaradan the commander of the guard, Nebushazban a chief officer, Nergal-Sharezer a high official and all the other officers(U) of the king of Babylon 14 sent and had Jeremiah taken out of the courtyard of the guard.(V) They turned him over to Gedaliah(W) son of Ahikam,(X) the son of Shaphan,(Y) to take him back to his home. So he remained among his own people.(Z)

15 While Jeremiah had been confined in the courtyard of the guard, the word of the Lord came to him: 16 “Go and tell Ebed-Melek(AA) the Cushite, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: I am about to fulfill my words(AB) against this city—words concerning disaster,(AC) not prosperity. At that time they will be fulfilled before your eyes. 17 But I will rescue(AD) you on that day, declares the Lord; you will not be given into the hands of those you fear. 18 I will save(AE) you; you will not fall by the sword(AF) but will escape with your life,(AG) because you trust(AH) in me, declares the Lord.’”
