Jeremias brev till folket i exil
29 Det här är vad profeten Jeremia skrev i ett brev som han sände från Jerusalem till de äldste som ännu levde kvar i exilen, prästerna, profeterna och till allt folket, dem som Nebukadnessar hade fört bort från Jerusalem till Babylonien. 2 Det var efter att kung Jekonja och drottningmodern, hovmännen, furstarna i Juda och Jerusalem, hantverkarna och smederna hade lämnat Jerusalem. 3 Han skickade brevet med Elasa, Shafans son, och Gemarja, Hilkias son, när Sidkia, Juda kung, sände dem till Babylon, till Nebukadnessar, kungen av Babylonien. Så här stod det:
4 Så säger härskarornas Herre, Israels Gud, till alla dem i exil som jag låtit föra bort från Jerusalem till Babylonien: 5 ”Bygg hus och bo där! Plantera trädgårdar och ät av deras frukt. 6 Gift er och föd söner och döttrar. Ta hustrur åt era söner och gift bort era döttrar, så att de föder söner och döttrar. Föröka er där, bli inte färre! 7 Sträva efter den stadens bästa dit jag har sänt er till exil. Be till Herren för den, för dess välgång är er välgång.” 8 För så säger härskarornas Herre, Israels Gud: ”Låt inte lura er av era profeter som finns bland er eller av era medier. Lyssna inte till drömmar de drömmer, 9 för de profeterar lögn i mitt namn. Jag har inte sänt dem, säger Herren.”
10 Så säger Herren: ”Först när sjuttio år har gått för Babylonien ska jag ta mig an er, uppfylla mitt löfte, och föra er tillbaka hit. 11 Jag vet vilka planer jag har för er, säger Herren. Det är planer för välgång och inte något ont, för att ge er en framtid och ett hopp. 12 Ni ska då åkalla mig, komma och be till mig, och jag ska lyssna på er. 13 Ni ska söka mig och finna mig, om ni helhjärtat söker mig. 14 Jag ska låta er finna mig, säger Herren, och jag ska föra er tillbaka från er fångenskap, samla er från alla de folk och platser jag fördrivit er till, säger Herren. Jag ska låta er återvända till den plats jag fört bort er ifrån.”
15 Men ni säger: ”Herren har låtit profeter uppstå bland oss i Babylonien.” 16 Så säger Herren om den kung som nu sitter på Davids tron och om allt folk som bor kvar i denna stad, era landsmän som inte fördes bort till exil med er, 17 så säger härskarornas Herre: ”Se, jag sänder svärd, hungersnöd och pest mot dem och låter dem bli som ruttna fikon, så dåliga att de inte kan ätas. 18 Jag ska förfölja dem med svärd, hungersnöd och pest och göra dem till en förskräckelse för alla riken på jorden, till förbannelse och hån, till förakt och vanära bland alla folk dit jag har fördrivit dem, 19 därför att de inte lyssnade till mig, säger Herren, fastän jag gång på gång talade till dem genom mina tjänare profeterna. Men ni har inte velat lyssna, säger Herren.”
20 Lyssna därför till Herrens ord, alla ni i exil som jag har sänt från Jerusalem till Babylonien. 21 Så säger härskarornas Herre, Israels Gud, om Achav, Kolajas son, och om Sidkia, Maasejas son, som i mitt namn profeterar lögn för er: ”Se, jag ska överlämna dem till den babyloniske kungen Nebukadnessar, så att han låter dem bli avrättade inför er. 22 För deras skull ska alla som förts till exil från Juda till Babylonien använda detta som förbannelse och säga: ’Må Herren låta det gå likadant för dig som för Sidkia och Achav, som kungen av Babylonien lät steka i eld.’ 23 De har nämligen gjort en skamlig gärning i Israel. De har begått äktenskapsbrott med varandras hustrur och ljugit i mitt namn, något som jag aldrig befallt. Jag vet och är vittne till det, säger Herren.”
Shemajas brev
24 Säg till nechelamiten Shemaja: 25 Så säger härskarornas Herre, Israels Gud: ”Du har på eget initiativ sänt brev till allt folket i Jerusalem, till prästen Sefanja, Maasejas son, och till alla de andra prästerna och skrivit: 26 ’Herren har utsett dig till präst efter prästen Jojada, till att ha uppsikt i Herrens hus över varje galning som framträder som profet och sätta honom i stock och halsjärn. 27 Varför har du inte läxat upp Jeremia från Anatot som framträder som profet bland er? 28 På grund av det har han kunnat skicka bud till oss här i Babylonien och sagt: Det här blir långvarigt. Bygg hus och bo där. Plantera trädgårdar och ät av deras frukt.’ ”
29 Prästen Sefanja läste upp detta brev för profeten Jeremia. 30 Då kom Herrens ord till Jeremia: 31 ”Sänd detta bud till alla i exilen: Så säger Herren om nechelamiten Shemaja: ’Eftersom Shemaja har profeterat för er, fastän jag inte sänt honom, har han fått er att tro på lögn. 32 Därför säger Herren detta: Jag ska straffa nechelamiten Shemaja och hans efterkommande. Ingen av dem ska få bo bland detta folk, och han ska inte få se allt det goda jag har i beredskap för mitt folk, säger Herren, för han har förkunnat uppror mot Herren.’ ”

Jeremia varnar för falska profeter
1-2 När kung Jekonja och drottningmodern, hovmännen, officerarna från de olika stammarna och hantverkarna hade blivit bortförda till Babylon av Nebukadnessar, skrev Jeremia ett brev från Jerusalem till de judiska äldste, prästerna, profeterna och till allt folket.
3 Han skickade brevet med Eleasa, Safans son, och Gemarja, Hilkias son, när de for till Babylon som kung Sidkias ambassadörer hos Nebukadnessar. Så här stod det i brevet:
4 Herren, härskarornas Gud, sänder detta budskap till alla fångar från Jerusalem, som han har låtit föra bort till Babylon:
5 Bygg hus och ställ in er på att stanna! Plantera vingårdar, för ni kommer att vara där många år.
6 Gift er och skaffa barn och se till att de sedan gifter sig, så att ni får många barnbarn. Föröka er! Se till att ni inte blir färre!
7 Arbeta för fred och framgång i Babylon. Be för landet. Om Babylon har fred så har ni det också.
8 Herren, härskarornas Gud, säger: Låt inte lura er av de falska profeter och medier som finns bland er. Hör inte på alla de drömmar de har,
9 för de profeterar lögn i mitt namn. Jag har inte sänt dem, säger Herren.
10 Sanningen är denna: Ni kommer att få stanna en mansålder i Babylon. Men sedan ska jag leda er hem igen, som jag har lovat.
11 Jag vet vilka planer jag har för er, säger Herren. Det är goda planer och inte onda, för jag vill ge er en framtid och ett hopp.
12 När ni ber ska jag lyssna.
13 Ni ska finna mig när ni söker mig, om ni verkligen gör det uppriktigt och allvarligt.
14 Ja, säger Herren, jag ska låta er finna mig, och jag ska göra slut på ert slaveri, upprätta er på nytt och samla er från alla de länder jag spred ut er till. Jag ska leda er tillbaka hem igen till ert eget land.
15 Men därför att ni har accepterat de falska profeterna bland er och säger att Herren har sänt dem,
16-17 kommer jag nu att låta krig, hungersnöd och sjukdom komma över dem som är kvar i Jerusalem. Detta ska komma över dem av era släktingar som inte blivit bortförda i landsflykt till Babylon och över den kung som nu sitter på Davids tron. De kommer att bli som ruttna fikon, odugliga att äta.
18 Jag ska sprida dem ut över världen. Bland varje folk dit jag sänder dem kommer förbannelse och hån att vila över dem,
19 därför att de vägrade att lyssna till mig, fastän jag gång på gång talade till dem genom mina profeter.
20 Lyssna därför till Herrens ord, alla ni fångar borta i Babylon!
21 Herren, härskarornas Gud, säger så här om era falska profeter, om Ahab, Kolajas son, och Sidkia, Maasejas son, som i mitt namn profeterar lögn för er: Lyssna nu! Jag ska överlämna dem till Nebukadnessar, så att de blir offentligt avrättade.
22 Deras öde ska bli ett ordspråk. När någon vill förbanna en annan, ska han säga: Herren ska låta det gå likadant för dig som för Sidkia och Ahab, som kungen i Babylon brände levande!
23 Dessa män har nämligen gjort fruktansvärda saker bland mitt folk. De har varit otrogna med varandras hustrur och har ljugit i mitt namn. Jag vet det, för jag har sett allt de gjort, säger Herren.
24 Säg detta till drömmaren Semaja:
25 Herren, härskarornas Gud, säger: Du har sänt brev till prästen Sefanja, Maasejas son, och skickat avskrifter till alla de andra prästerna och till folket i Jerusalem.
26 Du skriver till Sefanja: Herren har utsett dig att ersätta Jojada som präst i Jerusalem. Det är din uppgift att arrestera varenda galning som påstår sig vara en profet och sätta honom i stock och halsjärn.
27 Varför har du inte gjort något åt den falske profeten Jeremia från Anatot?
28 Han har skrivit till oss här i Babylon och sagt att vår fångenskap ska bli långvarig och att vi ska bygga permanenta bostäder och planera att stanna här i många år. Han har sagt att vi ska plantera fruktträd, för vi ska bli kvar här länge och äta av deras frukt.
29 Sefanja hade visat brevet för Jeremia och läst det för honom.
30 Då gav Herren Jeremia också detta budskap:
31 Sänd ett brev till alla fångar i Babylon! Herren säger: Därför att nehelamiten Semaja har profeterat för er när jag inte sänt honom att göra det, och eftersom han har lurat er att tro dessa lögner,
32 ska jag straffa honom och hans familj. Ingen av hans ättlingar ska få se allt det goda jag har i beredskap för mitt folk, för han har lärt er att göra uppror mot Herren.

29 1 Jeremiah writeth unto them that were in captivity in Babylon. 10 He prophesieth their return after seventy years. 16 He prophesieth the destruction of the King and of the people that remain in Jerusalem. 21 He threateneth the prophets that seduce the people. 25 The death of Shemaiah is prophesied.
1 Now these are the words of the [a]book that Jeremiah the Prophet sent from Jerusalem unto [b]the residue of the Elders, which were carried away captives, and to the Priests, and to the Prophets, and to all the people, whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babel:
2 (After that Jeconiah the King, and the [c]Queen, and the eunuchs, the (A)princes of Judah, and of Jerusalem, and the workmen, and cunning men were departed from Jerusalem)
3 By the hand of Elasah the son of Shaphan and Gemariah the son of Hilkiah, (whom Zedekiah king of Judah [d]sent unto Babel to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babel) saying,
4 Thus hath the Lord of hosts the God of Israel spoken unto all that are carried away captives, whom I have [e]caused to be carried away captives from Jerusalem unto Babel:
5 Build you houses to dwell in, and plant you gardens, and eat the fruits of them.
6 Take you wives, and beget sons and daughters, and take wives for your sons, and give your daughters husbands, that they may bear sons and daughters, that ye may be increased there, and not diminished.
7 And seek the prosperity of the city, whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and [f]pray unto the Lord for it: for in the peace thereof shall you have peace.
8 ¶ For thus saith the Lord of hosts the God of Israel, Let not your prophets, and your soothsayers that be among you, deceive you, neither give ear to your dreams, which you dream.
9 For they prophesy you a lie in my Name: I have not sent them, saith the Lord.
10 But thus saith the Lord, that after seventy years be accomplished at Babel, I will visit you, and perform my good promise toward you, and cause you to return to this place.
11 For I know the thoughts, that I have thought towards you, saith the Lord, even the thoughts of peace, and not of trouble, to give you an end, and your hope.
12 Then shall you cry unto me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hear you,
13 And ye shall seek me, and find me, because ye shall seek me with all [g]your heart.
14 And I will be found of you, saith the Lord, and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places, whither I have cast you, saith the Lord, and will bring you again unto the place, whence I caused you to be carried away captive.
15 Because ye have said, The Lord hath raised us up [h]Prophets in Babel.
16 Therefore thus saith the Lord of the King, that sitteth upon the throne of David, and of all the people that dwell in this city, your brethren that are not gone forth with you into captivity:
17 Even thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, I will send upon them the [i]sword, the famine, and the pestilence, and will make them like vile [j]figs, that cannot be eaten, they are so naughty.
18 And I will persecute them with the sword, with the famine, and with the pestilence: and I will make them a terror to all kingdoms of the earth, and [k]a curse, and astonishment, and an hissing and a reproach among all the nations whither I have cast them,
19 Because they have not heard my words saith the Lord, which I sent unto them by my servants the Prophets, [l]rising up early, and sending them, but ye would not hear, saith the Lord.
20 ¶ Hear ye therefore the word of the Lord, all ye of the captivity, whom I have sent from Jerusalem to Babel.
21 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, of Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and of Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, which prophesy lies unto you in my Name, Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar King of Babel, and he shall slay them before your eyes.
22 And all they of the captivity of Judah, that are in Babel, shall take up this curse against them, and say, The Lord make thee like Zedekiah, and like Ahab, whom the King of Babel burnt [m]in the fire,
23 Because they have committed [n]villainy in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbor’s wives, and have spoken lying words in my Name, which I have not commanded them, even I know it, and testify it, saith the Lord.
24 ¶ Thou shalt also speak to Shemaiah the [o]Nehelamite, saying,
25 Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, Because thou hast sent letters in thy name unto all the people, that are at Jerusalem, and to Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the Priest, and to all the Priests, saying,
26 The Lord hath made thee Priest, for [p]Jehoiada the Priest, that ye should be officers in the House of the Lord, for every man that raveth and maketh himself a Prophet, to put him in prison and in the stocks.
27 Now therefore why hast not thou reproved Jeremiah of Anathoth, which prophesieth unto you?
28 For, for this cause he sent unto us in Babel, saying, This captivity is long: build houses to dwell in, and plant gardens, and eat the fruits of them.
29 And Zephaniah the Priest read this letter in the ears of Jeremiah the Prophet.
30 Then came the word of the Lord unto Jeremiah, saying,
31 Send to all them of the captivity, saying, Thus saith the Lord of Shemaiah the Nehelamite, Because that Shemaiah hath prophesied unto you, and I sent him not, and he caused you to trust in a lie,
32 Therefore thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will visit Shemaiah the Nehelamite, and his seed: he shall not have a man [q]to dwell among this people, neither shall he behold the good, that I will do for my people, saith the Lord, because he hath spoken rebelliously against the Lord.
