Destrucción de Babilonia
51 El Señor dice:
«Voy a enviar un viento destructor
contra Babilonia y los caldeos.
2 Haré que sus enemigos traten a Babilonia
como a trigo que se lanza al aire;
haré que dejen sin habitantes su territorio.
Cuando llegue el día del desastre,
la atacarán por todas partes.
3 ¡Que preparen sus arcos los arqueros!
¡Que se pongan las corazas!
¡No tengan compasión de los jóvenes de Babilonia;
destruyan su ejército por completo!
4 Por todo el país de los caldeos
la gente quedará tendida por las calles,
5 pues aunque Israel y Judá han pecado contra mí
y han llenado de pecado su país,
yo, el Señor todopoderoso,
el Dios Santo de Israel,
aún no los he abandonado.
6 »¡Huyan de Babilonia! ¡Sálvese quien pueda!
¡No mueran por causa del pecado de ella!
Ésta es la hora de mi venganza,
y le pagaré como merece.
7 Babilonia era en mi mano una copa de oro
que embriagaba a todo el mundo.
Las naciones bebían de ese vino
y perdían el sentido.
8 Pero de pronto Babilonia cayó hecha pedazos.
¡Pónganse a llorar por ella!
Traigan remedios para sus heridas,
a ver si se cura.»
9 Ya le pusimos remedios a Babilonia,
pero no se curó.
¡Déjenla! Vámonos de aquí,
cada uno a su patria,
pues su crimen llega hasta el cielo,
se levanta hasta las nubes.
10 El Señor hizo triunfar nuestro derecho.
Vengan, vamos a contar en Sión
lo que ha hecho el Señor nuestro Dios.
11 El Señor quiere destruir Babilonia,
y ha despertado en los reyes de Media
ese mismo sentimiento.
Ésa es la venganza del Señor
por lo que hicieron con su templo.
¡Preparen las flechas! ¡Sujeten los escudos!
12 ¡Den la señal de atacar los muros de Babilonia!
¡Refuercen la guardia!
¡Pongan centinelas!
¡Tiendan emboscadas!
Porque el Señor preparó y llevó a cabo
los planes que había anunciado
contra los habitantes de Babilonia.
13 Tú, Babilonia, que estás junto a grandes ríos
y tienes grandes riquezas,
¡ya te ha llegado tu fin,
el término de tu existencia!
14 El Señor todopoderoso ha jurado por su vida:
«¡Te llenaré de enemigos, como de langostas,
y ellos cantarán victoria sobre ti!»
Himno de alabanza a Dios(A)
15 El Señor, con su poder, hizo la tierra;
con su sabiduría afirmó el mundo;
con su inteligencia extendió el cielo.
16 Con voz de trueno hace rugir el agua en el cielo,
hace subir las nubes desde el extremo de la tierra,
hace brillar los relámpagos en medio de la lluvia
y saca el viento de donde lo tiene guardado.
17 Necio e ignorante es todo hombre.
Los ídolos defraudan al que los fabrica:
son imágenes engañosas y sin vida;
18 son objetos sin valor, ridículos,
que el Señor, en el juicio, destruirá.
19 ¡Qué diferente es el Dios de Jacob,
creador de todo lo que existe!
Él escogió a Israel como su propiedad.
El Señor todopoderoso: ése es su nombre.
Babilonia, instrumento de castigo del Señor
20 «¡Babilonia, tú eres mi mazo,
mi arma de guerra!
Contigo destrozo naciones
y destruyo reinos.
21 Contigo destrozo caballos y jinetes,
carros y cocheros.
22 Contigo destrozo hombres y mujeres,
ancianos y jóvenes,
muchachos y muchachas.
23 Contigo destrozo pastores y rebaños,
labradores y bueyes,
gobernadores y funcionarios.
Castigo de Babilonia
24 »Pero ante los propios ojos de ustedes
pagaré a Babilonia y a todos los caldeos
como merecen, por el mal que hicieron a Sión.
Yo, el Señor lo afirmo.
25 Yo estoy en contra tuya, montaña destructora,
que destruyes toda la tierra.
Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.
Levantaré la mano para castigarte,
te haré rodar desde los peñascos
y te convertiré en un cerro quemado.
26 Ninguna de las piedras de tus ruinas
servirá para construir edificios.
Serás un desierto para siempre.
Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.
27 »¡Den en el país la señal de ataque!
¡Toquen la trompeta y preparen a las naciones
para atacar a Babilonia!
¡Levanten contra ella a los reinos de Ararat,
de Miní y de Asquenaz!
¡Nombren un general que dirija la batalla!
¡Hagan avanzar la caballería como langostas furiosas!
28 Preparen a las naciones para atacarla;
preparen a los reyes de Media,
y a sus gobernadores y funcionarios,
y toda la tierra que dominan.»
29 La tierra tiembla y se estremece,
porque el Señor está cumpliendo sus planes
de convertir Babilonia en un horrible desierto.
30 Los soldados babilonios dejaron de luchar,
se quedaron en sus fortalezas;
sus fuerzas se agotaron,
y hasta parecían mujeres.
Sus ciudades fueron invadidas
y sus casas incendiadas.
31 Uno tras otro corren los mensajeros
a anunciar al rey de Babilonia
que su ciudad fue conquistada por completo.
32 El enemigo ocupó los pasos de los ríos,
incendió los puestos de defensa
y los soldados se llenaron de terror.
33 Porque el Señor todopoderoso,
el Dios de Israel, dice:
«¡Babilonia es como una era
pisoteada en el tiempo de la trilla,
y muy pronto va a llegarle el tiempo de la cosecha!»
34-35 Dice Jerusalén, la ciudad de Sión:
«Nabucodonosor, el rey de Babilonia,
me hizo pedazos y me devoró;
me dejó como un plato vacío.
Como un monstruo del mar, me tragó;
se llenó con lo que más le gustó de mí,
y el resto lo tiró.
¡Que pague Babilonia por la violencia que me hizo!
¡Que paguen los caldeos por la gente que me mataron!»
Promesa a Israel
36 El Señor dice:
«Yo te voy a hacer justicia,
me voy a vengar de tus enemigos.
Voy a dejar completamente secos
el río y los manantiales de Babilonia,
37 que quedará convertida en un montón de ruinas,
en guarida de chacales,
en un lugar inhabitable
que a todos causará espanto y horror.
38 Todos ellos rugirán como leones
y gruñirán como cachorros.
39 Cuando ardan de calor, yo les daré a beber
bebidas que los embriaguen
y les hagan perder el sentido.
Así caerán en un sueño eterno
del que no despertarán.
Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.
40 Luego los llevaré al matadero,
como se lleva a los corderos, chivos y carneros.»
Caída de Babilonia
41 ¡Babilonia, la ciudad famosa en todo el mundo,
ha caído, ha sido conquistada!
¡Cómo se espantan las naciones al verla!
42 El mar inundó Babilonia,
la cubrió con sus grandes olas.
43 Sus ciudades se convirtieron en horrible desierto,
en tierra seca y desolada,
donde nadie vive,
por donde nadie pasa.
44 «Castigaré al dios Bel en Babilonia,
le haré vomitar lo que se había tragado,
y no volverán las naciones a acudir a él.
¡Ya cayeron las murallas de Babilonia!
45 Pueblo mío, sal de ahí,
¡y que cada cual salve su vida
de mi ardiente ira!
46 No se asusten, no tengan miedo
por los rumores que corren en el país.
Cada año correrán rumores diferentes,
rumores de violencia en el país
y de luchas entre gobernantes.
47 Así pues, vendrá el día
en que castigaré a los ídolos de Babilonia.
Todo el país quedará humillado
y cubierto de cadáveres.
48 El cielo y la tierra y todo lo que existe
se alegrarán cuando caiga Babilonia,
cuando vengan del norte sus destructores.
Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.
49 Sí, Babilonia ha de caer
por los muertos que le causó a Israel
y por los muertos que causó en todo el mundo.»
Mensaje a los judíos que están en Babilonia
50 Ustedes, los que escaparon de la matanza,
huyan sin parar,
y aun cuando estén lejos, piensen en el Señor
y acuérdense de Jerusalén.
51 Ustedes dicen: «Sentimos vergüenza
al oír cómo nos insultan.
La deshonra cubre nuestros rostros,
porque gente extranjera ha entrado
hasta los sitios más santos del templo.»
52 Pero el Señor afirma:
«Viene el día
en que castigaré a los ídolos de Babilonia,
y en todo su territorio gemirán los heridos.
53 Y aunque Babilonia suba hasta el cielo
para poner bien alta su fortaleza,
aun allí le enviaré enemigos que la destruyan.
Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo.»
Destrucción de Babilonia
54 Desde Babilonia llegan gritos de dolor,
desde el país de los caldeos llega un gran ruido.
55 Es el Señor, que destruye a Babilonia
y pone fin a su bullicio.
Los enemigos, como olas rugientes,
caerán sobre ella con gran estruendo.
56 Vinieron a destruir Babilonia;
ya capturaron a sus guerreros
y les hicieron pedazos sus arcos.
Porque el Señor es un Dios
que a cada cual le da lo que merece.
57 El Rey, el Señor todopoderoso, afirma:
«Emborracharé a los jefes de Babilonia,
a sus sabios y gobernadores,
y a sus funcionarios y soldados,
y caerán en un sueño eterno
del que no despertarán.
58 Yo, el Señor todopoderoso, digo:
Las anchas murallas de Babilonia
serán derribadas por completo,
y sus enormes puertas serán incendiadas.
Inútilmente habrán trabajado las naciones,
pues sus fatigas terminarán en el fuego.»
Llevan a Babilonia el mensaje de Jeremías
59 En el año cuarto del gobierno de Sedequías, rey de Judá, el profeta Jeremías dio un encargo a Seraías, hijo de Nerías y nieto de Maaseías. Seraías acompañaba al rey Sedequías en su viaje a Babilonia, como encargado de arreglar el hospedaje del rey. 60 Jeremías había escrito en un libro su mensaje acerca de todas las calamidades que habrían de venir sobre Babilonia, es decir, todo lo escrito acerca de ella, 61 y le dijo a Seraías: «Cuando llegues a Babilonia, ten cuidado de leer todo este mensaje. 62 Luego dirás: “Señor, tú has dicho que destruirás este lugar, de manera que nadie vuelva a vivir aquí, ni hombres ni animales, porque lo vas a convertir en un desierto para siempre.” 63 Y luego que termines de leer este libro, átale una piedra y échalo al río Éufrates, 64 y di: “Así se hundirá Babilonia, y no se volverá a levantar del desastre que el Señor le va a enviar.”»

51 This is what the Lord says:
“See, I will stir(A) up the spirit of a destroyer
against Babylon(B) and the people of Leb Kamai.[a]
2 I will send foreigners(C) to Babylon
to winnow(D) her and to devastate her land;
they will oppose her on every side
in the day(E) of her disaster.
3 Let not the archer string his bow,(F)
nor let him put on his armor.(G)
Do not spare her young men;
completely destroy[b] her army.
4 They will fall(H) down slain in Babylon,[c]
fatally wounded in her streets.(I)
5 For Israel and Judah have not been forsaken(J)
by their God, the Lord Almighty,
though their land[d] is full of guilt(K)
before the Holy One of Israel.
6 “Flee(L) from Babylon!
Run for your lives!
Do not be destroyed because of her sins.(M)
It is time(N) for the Lord’s vengeance;(O)
he will repay(P) her what she deserves.
7 Babylon was a gold cup(Q) in the Lord’s hand;
she made the whole earth drunk.
The nations drank her wine;
therefore they have now gone mad.
8 Babylon will suddenly fall(R) and be broken.
Wail over her!
Get balm(S) for her pain;
perhaps she can be healed.
9 “‘We would have healed Babylon,
but she cannot be healed;
let us leave(T) her and each go to our own land,
for her judgment(U) reaches to the skies,
it rises as high as the heavens.’
11 “Sharpen the arrows,(X)
take up the shields!(Y)
The Lord has stirred up the kings(Z) of the Medes,(AA)
because his purpose(AB) is to destroy Babylon.
The Lord will take vengeance,(AC)
vengeance for his temple.(AD)
12 Lift up a banner(AE) against the walls of Babylon!
Reinforce the guard,
station the watchmen,(AF)
prepare an ambush!(AG)
The Lord will carry out his purpose,(AH)
his decree against the people of Babylon.
13 You who live by many waters(AI)
and are rich in treasures,(AJ)
your end has come,
the time for you to be destroyed.(AK)
14 The Lord Almighty has sworn by himself:(AL)
I will surely fill you with troops, as with a swarm of locusts,(AM)
and they will shout(AN) in triumph over you.
15 “He made the earth by his power;
he founded the world by his wisdom(AO)
and stretched(AP) out the heavens by his understanding.(AQ)
16 When he thunders,(AR) the waters in the heavens roar;
he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth.
He sends lightning with the rain(AS)
and brings out the wind from his storehouses.(AT)
17 “Everyone is senseless and without knowledge;
every goldsmith is shamed by his idols.
The images he makes are a fraud;(AU)
they have no breath in them.
18 They are worthless,(AV) the objects of mockery;
when their judgment comes, they will perish.
19 He who is the Portion(AW) of Jacob is not like these,
for he is the Maker of all things,
including the people of his inheritance(AX)—
the Lord Almighty is his name.
20 “You are my war club,(AY)
my weapon for battle—
with you I shatter(AZ) nations,(BA)
with you I destroy kingdoms,
21 with you I shatter horse and rider,(BB)
with you I shatter chariot(BC) and driver,
22 with you I shatter man and woman,
with you I shatter old man and youth,
with you I shatter young man and young woman,(BD)
23 with you I shatter shepherd and flock,
with you I shatter farmer and oxen,
with you I shatter governors and officials.(BE)
24 “Before your eyes I will repay(BF) Babylon(BG) and all who live in Babylonia[e] for all the wrong they have done in Zion,” declares the Lord.
25 “I am against(BH) you, you destroying mountain,
you who destroy the whole earth,”(BI)
declares the Lord.
“I will stretch out my hand(BJ) against you,
roll you off the cliffs,
and make you a burned-out mountain.(BK)
26 No rock will be taken from you for a cornerstone,
nor any stone for a foundation,
for you will be desolate(BL) forever,”
declares the Lord.
27 “Lift up a banner(BM) in the land!
Blow the trumpet among the nations!
Prepare the nations for battle against her;
summon against her these kingdoms:(BN)
Ararat,(BO) Minni and Ashkenaz.(BP)
Appoint a commander against her;
send up horses like a swarm of locusts.(BQ)
28 Prepare the nations for battle against her—
the kings of the Medes,(BR)
their governors and all their officials,
and all the countries they rule.(BS)
29 The land trembles(BT) and writhes,
for the Lord’s purposes(BU) against Babylon stand—
to lay waste(BV) the land of Babylon
so that no one will live there.(BW)
30 Babylon’s warriors(BX) have stopped fighting;
they remain in their strongholds.
Their strength is exhausted;
they have become weaklings.(BY)
Her dwellings are set on fire;(BZ)
the bars(CA) of her gates are broken.
31 One courier(CB) follows another
and messenger follows messenger
to announce to the king of Babylon
that his entire city is captured,(CC)
32 the river crossings seized,
the marshes set on fire,(CD)
and the soldiers terrified.(CE)”
33 This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says:
“Daughter Babylon(CF) is like a threshing floor(CG)
at the time it is trampled;
the time to harvest(CH) her will soon come.(CI)”
34 “Nebuchadnezzar(CJ) king of Babylon has devoured(CK) us,(CL)
he has thrown us into confusion,
he has made us an empty jar.
Like a serpent he has swallowed us
and filled his stomach with our delicacies,
and then has spewed(CM) us out.
35 May the violence(CN) done to our flesh[f] be on Babylon,”
say the inhabitants of Zion.
“May our blood be on those who live in Babylonia,”
says Jerusalem.(CO)
36 Therefore this is what the Lord says:
“See, I will defend your cause(CP)
and avenge(CQ) you;
I will dry up(CR) her sea
and make her springs dry.
37 Babylon will be a heap of ruins,
a haunt(CS) of jackals,
an object of horror and scorn,(CT)
a place where no one lives.(CU)
38 Her people all roar like young lions,(CV)
they growl like lion cubs.
39 But while they are aroused,
I will set out a feast for them
and make them drunk,(CW)
so that they shout with laughter—
then sleep forever(CX) and not awake,”
declares the Lord.(CY)
40 “I will bring them down
like lambs to the slaughter,
like rams and goats.(CZ)
41 “How Sheshak[g](DA) will be captured,(DB)
the boast of the whole earth seized!
How desolate(DC) Babylon will be
among the nations!
42 The sea will rise over Babylon;
its roaring waves(DD) will cover her.
43 Her towns will be desolate,
a dry and desert(DE) land,
a land where no one lives,
through which no one travels.(DF)
44 I will punish Bel(DG) in Babylon
and make him spew out(DH) what he has swallowed.
The nations will no longer stream to him.
And the wall(DI) of Babylon will fall.
45 “Come out(DJ) of her, my people!
Run(DK) for your lives!
Run from the fierce anger(DL) of the Lord.
46 Do not lose heart(DM) or be afraid(DN)
when rumors(DO) are heard in the land;
one rumor comes this year, another the next,
rumors of violence in the land
and of ruler against ruler.
47 For the time will surely come
when I will punish the idols(DP) of Babylon;
her whole land will be disgraced(DQ)
and her slain will all lie fallen within her.(DR)
48 Then heaven and earth and all that is in them
will shout(DS) for joy over Babylon,
for out of the north(DT)
destroyers(DU) will attack her,”
declares the Lord.
49 “Babylon must fall because of Israel’s slain,
just as the slain in all the earth
have fallen because of Babylon.(DV)
50 You who have escaped the sword,
leave(DW) and do not linger!
Remember(DX) the Lord in a distant land,(DY)
and call to mind Jerusalem.”
51 “We are disgraced,(DZ)
for we have been insulted
and shame covers our faces,
because foreigners have entered
the holy places of the Lord’s house.”(EA)
52 “But days are coming,” declares the Lord,
“when I will punish her idols,(EB)
and throughout her land
the wounded will groan.(EC)
53 Even if Babylon ascends to the heavens(ED)
and fortifies her lofty stronghold,
I will send destroyers(EE) against her,”
declares the Lord.
54 “The sound of a cry(EF) comes from Babylon,
the sound of great destruction(EG)
from the land of the Babylonians.[h]
55 The Lord will destroy Babylon;
he will silence(EH) her noisy din.
Waves(EI) of enemies will rage like great waters;
the roar of their voices will resound.
56 A destroyer(EJ) will come against Babylon;
her warriors will be captured,
and their bows will be broken.(EK)
For the Lord is a God of retribution;
he will repay(EL) in full.
57 I will make her officials(EM) and wise(EN) men drunk,(EO)
her governors, officers and warriors as well;
they will sleep(EP) forever and not awake,”
declares the King,(EQ) whose name is the Lord Almighty.
58 This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“Babylon’s thick wall(ER) will be leveled
and her high gates(ES) set on fire;
the peoples(ET) exhaust(EU) themselves for nothing,
the nations’ labor is only fuel for the flames.”(EV)
59 This is the message Jeremiah the prophet gave to the staff officer Seraiah son of Neriah,(EW) the son of Mahseiah, when he went to Babylon with Zedekiah(EX) king of Judah in the fourth(EY) year of his reign. 60 Jeremiah had written on a scroll(EZ) about all the disasters that would come upon Babylon—all that had been recorded concerning Babylon. 61 He said to Seraiah, “When you get to Babylon, see that you read all these words aloud. 62 Then say, ‘Lord, you have said you will destroy this place, so that neither people nor animals will live in it; it will be desolate(FA) forever.’ 63 When you finish reading this scroll, tie a stone to it and throw it into the Euphrates.(FB) 64 Then say, ‘So will Babylon sink to rise no more(FC) because of the disaster I will bring on her. And her people(FD) will fall.’”(FE)

51 CHÚA phán như vầy:
“Này, Ta sẽ khiến gió nổi lên
Hủy diệt Ba-by-lôn và dân Canh-đê.[a]
2 Ta sẽ sai bọn rê thóc[b] đến, chúng sẽ rê sạch Ba-by-lôn,
Làm cho đất nước điêu tàn,
Vì chúng vây đánh nó tứ phía,
Trong ngày hoạn nạn.
3 Người bắn cung hãy giương cung,
Mặc áo giáp đứng sẵn sàng.
Đừng thương xót những kẻ trai tráng,
Hãy giết sạch toàn đội quân.
4 Kẻ bị đâm ngã xuống đất Canh-đê,
Người bị thương ngã xuống ngoài đường phố.
5 Vì Y-sơ-ra-ên và Giu-đa không gặp cảnh góa bụa,
Không thiếu vắng Đức Chúa Trời, CHÚA Vạn Quân;
Nhưng đất Canh-đê đầy dẫy tội lỗi,

6 Hãy trốn khỏi Ba-by-lôn!
Ai nấy phải lo cứu mạng sống mình!
Đừng chết lây vì tội ác nó!
Vì đây là thời kỳ báo ứng của CHÚA,
Ngài sẽ báo trả nó xứng đáng.
7 Ba-by-lôn vốn là một cái chén vàng trong tay CHÚA,
Làm cho thế giới say mèm;
Các dân tộc uống rượu của Ba-by-lôn,
Vì thế chúng phát điên.
8 Bỗng chốc Ba-by-lôn sụp đổ tan tành.
Hãy khóc than nó!
Hãy xoa dầu lên vết thương nó!
Biết đâu nó sẽ lành.
9 Chúng ta cố gắng cứu chữa Ba-by-lôn,
Nhưng nó vẫn không lành.
Hãy bỏ mặc nó! Chúng ta ai nấy hãy trở về quê hương mình,
Vì sự đoán phạt nó lên đến tận trời,
Cao đến tận mây.
10 CHÚA đã báo thù cho chúng ta.
Hãy đến, chúng ta hãy rao truyền tại Si-ôn
Công việc của CHÚA, Đức Chúa Trời chúng ta.
11 Hãy chuốt mũi tên, bỏ đầy bao![c]
CHÚA đã giục lòng các vua Mê-đi
Xông đánh Ba-by-lôn,
Vì Ngài có chương trình hủy diệt nó;
Vì đây là sự báo trả của CHÚA,
Ngài báo trả cho đền thờ của Ngài.
12 Hãy giương cờ chống lại tường thành Ba-by-lôn,
Hãy tăng cường trạm gác,
Hãy đặt lính canh,
Chuẩn bị quân phục kích!
Vì CHÚA đã hoạch định,
Và Ngài sẽ thi hành điều Ngài phán về dân Ba-by-lôn.
13 Ngươi sống giữa nhiều dòng sông,
Ngươi có nhiều kho của báu,
Đời ngươi đã kết thúc,
Phần lời bất lương của ngươi đã bị cắt.
14 CHÚA Vạn Quân lấy chính mình Ngài mà thề:
Chắc chắn Ta sẽ khiến quân địch tràn ngập thành như châu chấu,
Tiếng chúng reo hò chiến thắng vang dội khắp nơi.
CHÚA Là Đấng Tạo Hóa[d]
15 Chính Ngài tạo dựng địa cầu bởi quyền năng Ngài,
Sáng lập thế giới bởi sự khôn ngoan Ngài,
Và giương các tầng trời bởi trí thức Ngài.
16 Khi Ngài lên tiếng, các nguồn nước trên trời náo động,
Ngài khiến hơi nước bốc lên từ nơi đầu cùng đất,
Ngài khiến chớp lóe lên trong cơn mưa,
Và lùa gió ra khỏi kho tàng của Ngài.
17 Mọi người đều u mê, thiếu hiểu biết,
Người thợ đúc tượng nào cũng xấu hổ vì tượng chạm mình,
Vì thần tượng người đúc chỉ là thần giả để lừa bịp,
Chẳng có hơi thở bên trong.
18 Các thần tượng đều không có giá trị, chỉ là vật nhạo báng gạt gẫm,
Đến ngày đoán phạt, chúng sẽ bị tiêu diệt.
19 Nhưng phần cơ nghiệp của Gia-cốp chẳng giống chúng đâu,
Vì chính Ngài nắn tạo vạn vật,
Và Y-sơ-ra-ên[e] là bộ tộc của cơ nghiệp Ngài,
Danh Ngài là CHÚA Vạn Quân.
Ba-by-lôn Bị Trừng Phạt
20 Ngươi là cây búa,
Là vũ khí chiến trận của Ta,
Ta dùng ngươi đập tan các nước,
Tiêu diệt các vương quốc.
21 Ta dùng ngươi đập tan ngựa chiến và kỵ binh,
Ta dùng ngươi đập tan xe ngựa và người đánh xe;
22 Ta dùng ngươi đập tan đàn ông và đàn bà,
Ta dùng ngươi đập tan già và trẻ,
Ta dùng ngươi đập tan thanh niên và thiếu nữ;
23 Ta dùng ngươi đập tan người chăn và bầy dê cừu,
Ta dùng ngươi đập tan người cầy ruộng và bò kéo cày,
Ta dùng ngươi đập tan tỉnh trưởng và quận trưởng.”
24 CHÚA phán: “Nhưng Ta sẽ báo trả Ba-by-lôn và toàn dân Canh-đê tất cả những công việc ác chúng làm cho Si-ôn, ngay trước mắt các ngươi.”
25 CHÚA phán:
“Này, hỡi núi hủy diệt, Ta chống nghịch ngươi,
Ngươi hủy diệt cả thế giới,
Nhưng Ta sẽ dang tay đánh ngươi,
Ta sẽ khiến ngươi lăn xuống hốc đá,
Ngươi sẽ thành một núi gạch vụn cháy đen.”
26 CHÚA phán:
“Không ai sẽ moi ra được từ ngươi một tảng đá dùng làm đá góc nhà
Hoặc để xây nền,
Vì ngươi sẽ điêu tàn mãi mãi.
27 Hãy giương cờ lên cao trên đất!
Hãy thổi tù và vang khắp các nước!
Hãy biệt riêng các dân tộc ra tranh chiến với nó!
Hãy điều động các vương quốc A-ra-rát, Minh-ni,
Và Ách-kê-na chống lại nó!
Hãy cử tổng tư lệnh!
Ngựa chiến hãy xung trận như châu chấu lởm chởm đầy mặt đất!
28 Hãy biệt riêng các dân tộc ra tranh chiến với nó:
Vua Mê-đi
Và các tỉnh trưởng, quận trưởng,
Và tất cả các lãnh thổ dưới quyền vua.
29 Đất rúng động trong cơn đau quặn thắt,
Vì CHÚA thực hiện ý định của Ngài,
Biến đất nước Ba-by-lôn thành sa mạc hoang vu,
Không người ở.
30 Các chiến sĩ Ba-by-lôn ngừng giao chiến,
Nép mình trong đồn lũy;
Họ cạn sức,
Trở nên như đàn bà;
Nhà cửa trong thành bị đốt cháy,
Then cài cổng thành bị bẻ gãy.
31 Người đưa tin chạy gặp người đưa tin,
Sứ giả chạy gặp sứ giả,
Báo cáo lên vua Ba-by-lôn:
Cả kinh thành đều thất thủ.
32 Những khúc sông cạn, có lối đi băng qua, đều bị chiếm giữ;
Các ao sậy đều bị đốt cháy;
Các chiến sĩ kinh hồn khiếp vía.”
33 Vì CHÚA Vạn Quân, Đức Chúa Trời của Y-sơ-ra-ên, phán như vầy:
“Ba-by-lôn giống như sân đạp lúa
Trong giờ đạp lúa;
Mùa gặt sẽ đến trong chốc lát.
34 Nê-bu-cát-nết-sa, vua Ba-by-lôn,
Ăn nuốt tôi và phá rối tôi,
Vét sạch tôi như một cái nồi trống,
Nuốt chửng tôi như rắn nuốt mồi,
Ăn đầy bụng những món cao lương mỹ vị của tôi,
Rồi đuổi tôi đi.
35 Dân thành Si-ôn nói: ‘Cầu xin sự tàn ác gây cho tôi và dòng họ tôi
Đổ lại trên dân Ba-by-lôn!’
Giê-ru-sa-lem nói:
‘Cầu xin huyết tôi đổ lại trên dân Canh-đê!’ ”
36 Vì thế CHÚA phán như vầy:
“Này, Ta sẽ biện hộ cho con,
Ta sẽ báo thù cho con;
Ta sẽ làm cho biển nó khô,
Và mạch nước nó cạn.
37 Ba-by-lôn sẽ đổ nát thành đống đá,
Thành hang chó rừng,
Chốn hoang vu kinh rợn, không người ở;
Ai đi ngang qua phải xuýt xoa.
38 Chúng đều rống lên như sư tử,
Gầm gừ như sư tử con.”
39 CHÚA phán:
“Khi chúng nóng tiết,
Ta sẽ dọn tiệc cho chúng,
Cho chúng say sưa vui thỏa,
Để rồi chúng ngủ giấc ngủ ngàn thu,
Không bao giờ thức dậy nữa.
40 Ta sẽ đem chúng xuống lò thịt
Như chiên con,
Như cừu đực và dê đực.
41 Ôi, thành Si-sách đã thất thủ!
Kinh thành cả thế giới từng ca ngợi đã bị chiếm đóng!
Ôi, Ba-by-lôn hoang vu rùng rợn
Giữa các nước!
42 Biển nổi dậy,
Các lượn sóng gào thét tràn ngập Ba-by-lôn.
43 Các thành phố điêu tàn,
Đất nước Ba-by-lôn khô hạn, hoang vu,
Không người ở,
Cũng không người qua lại.
44 Ta sẽ trừng phạt thần Bên tại Ba-by-lôn,
Bắt nó nhả ra những gì nó đã nuốt;
Các dân tộc không còn lũ lượt kéo về cúng bái nữa,
Ngay cả tường thành Ba-by-lôn cũng sụp đổ.
45 Hỡi dân Ta, hãy ra khỏi Ba-by-lôn,
Ai nấy hãy chạy thoát thân,
Tránh khỏi cơn phẫn nộ của CHÚA!
46 Đừng ngã lòng, cũng đừng hoảng sợ
Vì tin đồn trong nước.
Năm nay, tin thế này, năm sau lại có tin thế kia.
Cảnh bạo ngược tàn khốc xảy ra trong nước,
Các tướng lãnh tranh giành quyền thế sát hại lẫn nhau.
47 Vì thế, sẽ có ngày
Ta trừng phạt các tượng hình Ba-by-lôn,
Cả đất nước sẽ nhục nhã ê chề,
Mọi người sẽ bị đâm, ngã xuống chết giữa thành.”
48 CHÚA phán:
“Trời và đất, cùng mọi vật trên trời, dưới đất,
Đều reo mừng,
Vì quân tàn phá hủy diệt từ phương bắc
Xông vào đánh Ba-by-lôn.
49 Hỡi dân Y-sơ-ra-ên bị đâm chết, phải, dân Ba-by-lôn sẽ ngã xuống chết,
Cũng như những người bị Ba-by-lôn
Đâm chết ngã xuống khắp cả đất.
50 Hỡi những kẻ thoát khỏi lưỡi gươm,
Hãy đi, đừng dừng lại!
Từ xa, hãy tưởng nhớ CHÚA,
Hãy gợi lại trong tâm trí hình ảnh Giê-ru-sa-lem.
51 Chúng con xấu hổ
Vì chúng con bị chế nhạo,
Chúng con nhục nhã trùm mặt lại,
Khi quân nước ngoài xông vào
Đền thánh của CHÚA.”
52 CHÚA phán:
“Vì thế, sẽ có ngày
Ta trừng phạt các tượng hình Ba-by-lôn,
Và khắp đất nước,
Kẻ bị thương sẽ rên xiết.”
53 CHÚA phán:
“Dù Ba-by-lôn có lên cao đến tận trời,
Dù nó xây tường thành kiên cố cao chót vót,
Ta cũng sẽ sai quân tàn phá hủy diệt xông đánh nó.
54 Hãy lắng nghe!
Tiếng kêu la vang lên từ Ba-by-lôn,
Tiếng tàn phá khốc liệt từ đất nước Canh-đê.
55 Vì CHÚA đang hủy diệt Ba-by-lôn,
Các lượn sóng quân thù như nước lũ gào thét,
Chúng reo hò át mất
Tiếng kêu la của Ba-by-lôn.
56 Vì kẻ hủy diệt xông đánh Ba-by-lôn;
Các chiến sĩ nó bị bắt,
Gẫy cung;
Vì CHÚA là Đức Chúa Trời thưởng phạt,
Ngài chắc chắn sẽ báo trả.”
57 Đức Vua, danh Ngài là CHÚA Vạn Quân, phán:
“Ta sẽ khiến cho các cấp lãnh đạo và cố vấn,
Các tỉnh trưởng, quận trưởng, và các chiến sĩ đều say mèm,
Để rồi chúng ngủ giấc ngàn thu, không hề thức dậy.”
58 CHÚA Vạn Quân phán như vầy:
“Các tường thành dày chắc của Ba-by-lôn sẽ bị san bằng,
Các cổng thành cao vút sẽ bị đốt cháy,
Dân chúng khổ nhọc luống công,
Các dân tộc lao lực mệt mỏi, công trình họ chỉ dành cho lửa.”
Tiên Tri Giê-rê-mi Giao Cuộn Da Ghi Chép Lời Tiên Tri Về Ba-by-lôn Cho Sê-ra-gia
59 Đây là lời tiên tri Giê-rê-mi dặn Sê-ra-gia, con Nê-ri-gia, cháu Ma-ha-sê-gia, khi ông đi qua Ba-by-lôn với vua Sê-đê-kia, nước Giu-đa, vào năm thứ tư triều vua Sê-đê-kia. Lúc ấy, Sê-ra-gia giữ chức tổng trưởng cục quân nhu.[f] 60 Giê-rê-mi chép vào một cuộn sách tất cả những tai họa sẽ xảy đến cho Ba-by-lôn, tức là tất cả những lời ghi chép ở trên về Ba-by-lôn. 61 Giê-rê-mi bảo Sê-ra-gia: “Khi ông đến Ba-by-lôn, ông nhớ đọc lớn tiếng tất cả lời này, 62 rồi cầu nguyện: ‘Lạy CHÚA, chính Ngài phán rằng Ngài sẽ hủy diệt thành này, đến nỗi không người nào ở nữa, thậm chí thú cũng không, và nơi này sẽ hoang vu mãi mãi. 63 Khi ông đọc xong, ông hãy cột một hòn đá vào sách này, rồi quăng xuống sông Ơ-phơ-rát 64 và nói: Ba-by-lôn sẽ chìm xuống như vậy, chẳng bao giờ nổi lên nữa, vì tai họa Ta sẽ giáng xuống trên nó.’ ”
