Profecía sobre los filisteos
47 Lo que vino como palabra del Señor al profeta Jeremías acerca de los filisteos, antes que Faraón conquistara[a] Gaza(A). 2 Así dice el Señor:
«Suben aguas del norte(B)
Y se convierten en torrente desbordante,
Que inunda la tierra y su plenitud(C),
La ciudad y los que en ella habitan.
Clamarán los hombres,
Y gemirá todo habitante de la tierra(D)
3 A causa del sonido de los[b] cascos de sus corceles[c],
Del estruendo de sus carros y del estrépito de sus ruedas(E).
No se vuelven los padres para cuidar a sus hijos,
Por la debilidad de sus brazos[d],
4 A causa del día que viene
Para destruir a todos los filisteos(F),
Para exterminar de Tiro y de Sidón(G)
A todo aliado que quede.
Porque el Señor destruirá a los filisteos,
Al remanente de la costa de Caftor(H).
5 -»Le ha sobrevenido la calvicie(I) a Gaza,
Desolada ha sido Ascalón(J).
Remanente de su valle,
¿Hasta cuándo te sajarás(K)?
6 -»¡Ay, espada del Señor!
¿Hasta cuándo estarás inquieta[e]?
Vuélvete a tu vaina(L),
Reposa y cálmate.
7 -»¿Cómo puede[f] estar quieta,
Cuando el Señor le ha dado órdenes(M)?
Contra Ascalón y contra la costa del mar,
Allí la ha asignado».

Profecía acerca de los filisteos
47 Éste es el mensaje que el Señor dirigió al profeta Jeremías acerca de los filisteos, antes que el faraón atacara Gaza:
2 «Yo, el Señor, digo:
Del norte llega una inundación,
como de un río desbordado;
inunda el país y todo lo que hay en él,
las ciudades y los que en ellas viven.
Todos los habitantes del país gritan,
la gente lanza ayes de dolor.
3 Al oír el galope de los caballos,
el estruendo de los carros
y el ruido de las ruedas,
les faltan fuerzas a los padres
y abandonan a sus hijos.
4 Porque llegó el día de aniquilar a los filisteos,
de quitarles a Tiro y Sidón
la ayuda que aún les queda.»
Sí, el Señor va a destruir a los filisteos,
que emigraron de la isla de Creta.
5 La gente de Gaza se rapa la cabeza,
la gente de Ascalón se queda muda.
Último resto de los antiguos gigantes,
¿hasta cuándo te harás cortaduras en la carne
en señal de dolor?
6 ¡Ay, espada del Señor!
¿Cuándo te vas a detener?
¡Vuelve a entrar en tu vaina,
cálmate, quédate quieta!
7 ¿Pero cómo podría quedarse quieta
si el Señor le ha dado órdenes,
si le ha dado el encargo
de atacar a Ascalón y toda la costa?

Judgment on Philistia
47 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet (A)against the Philistines, (B)before Pharaoh attacked Gaza.
2 Thus says the Lord:
“Behold, (C)waters rise (D)out of the north,
And shall be an overflowing flood;
They shall overflow the land and all that is in it,
The city and those who dwell within;
Then the men shall cry,
And all the inhabitants of the land shall wail.
3 At the (E)noise of the stamping hooves of his strong horses,
At the rushing of his chariots,
At the rumbling of his wheels,
The fathers will not look back for their children,
[a]Lacking courage,
4 Because of the day that comes to plunder all the (F)Philistines,
To cut off from (G)Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains;
For the Lord shall plunder the Philistines,
(H)The remnant of the country of (I)Caphtor.[b]
5 (J)Baldness has come upon Gaza,
(K)Ashkelon is cut off
With the remnant of their valley.
How long will you cut yourself?
6 “O you (L)sword of the Lord,
How long until you are quiet?
Put yourself up into your scabbard,
Rest and be still!
7 How can [c]it be quiet,
Seeing the Lord has (M)given it a charge
Against Ashkelon and against the seashore?
There He has (N)appointed it.”

47 The word of the Lord that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.
2 Thus saith the Lord; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.
3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;
4 Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the Lord will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.
5 Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?
6 O thou sword of the Lord, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.
7 How can it be quiet, seeing the Lord hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.
