Setenta años de desolación
25 En el año cuarto del reinado de Joacín(A) hijo de Josías en Judá, que era el año primero del reinado de Nabucodonosor en Babilonia, Jeremías recibió un mensaje acerca de todo el pueblo de Judá. 2 Este mensaje lo comunicó el profeta Jeremías a todo el pueblo de Judá y a todos los habitantes de Jerusalén. Les dijo:
3 «Desde el año trece del reinado de Josías hijo de Amón en Judá, hasta el día de hoy, han pasado veintitrés años. En todo ese tiempo ha venido a mí la palabra del Señor, la cual les he comunicado una y otra vez, pero ustedes no han querido escucharla. 4 El Señor les envió también una y otra vez a todos sus siervos los profetas, pero ustedes no quisieron escucharlos, ni les prestaron atención. 5 Ellos les decían: “Apártense ya de su mal camino y de cometer tanta maldad, y vivirán en la tierra que el Señor les dio a ustedes y a sus padres para siempre. 6 No vayan tras dioses ajenos, ni los sirvan ni los adoren. No provoquen mi enojo con sus hechos, y yo no les haré ningún daño. 7 Pero ustedes no me han hecho caso, sino que han despertado mi enojo con sus malas obras, para su propio mal.”
—Palabra del Señor.
8 »Por tanto, así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos: “Puesto que no han hecho caso a mis palabras, 9 voy a tomar a todas las tribus del norte, y a mi siervo Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y haré que se lancen contra esta tierra y sus habitantes, y contra todas las naciones vecinas.
”Voy a destruirlos, a exponerlos al escarnio y a las burlas. ¡Voy a dejarlos en ruinas para siempre.
—Palabra del Señor.
10 ”Voy a hacer que desaparezca de entre ellos la voz de gozo y de alegría, la voz del novio y de la novia,(B) y el ruido del molino y la luz de la lámpara.(C) 11 Toda esta tierra quedará en desoladoras ruinas, y estas naciones servirán al rey de Babilonia durante setenta años.(D) 12 Cuando se cumplan los setenta años, castigaré por su maldad al rey de Babilonia, a esa nación y al país de los caldeos; ¡para siempre la convertiré en un desierto!
—Palabra del Señor.
13 ”Haré que venga sobre ese país todo lo que he anunciado contra él, con todo lo que está escrito en este libro, y que Jeremías ha profetizado contra todas las naciones. 14 También ellas serán sojuzgadas por muchas naciones y por grandes reyes; ¡yo les daré su merecido, según sus malas acciones.”»
La copa del juicio contra las naciones
15 Así me dijo el Señor y Dios de Israel:
«Toma de mi mano la copa del vino de mi furor, y haz que beban de ella todas las naciones a las cuales yo te envío. 16 Cuando la beban, temblarán de miedo y perderán el juicio por causa de la espada que lanzo contra ellas.»
17 Yo tomé de la mano del Señor la copa, y se la hice beber a todas las naciones a las cuales el Señor me envió, es decir: 18 Jerusalén, las ciudades de Judá, con sus reyes y príncipes, para dejarlos en ruinas y como objeto de escarnio, burla y maldición, como hasta el día de hoy; 19 el faraón, rey de Egipto, y sus siervos y príncipes y todo su pueblo; 20 todos los extranjeros que allí vivan, todos los reyes de la tierra de Uz, y todos los reyes de la tierra de Filistea, Ascalón, Gaza, Ecrón y los sobrevivientes de Asdod; 21 Edom, Moab y los hijos de Amón; 22 todos los reyes de Tiro, todos los reyes de Sidón, los reyes de las costas que están de ese lado del mar; 23 Dedán, Tema y Buz, y todos los que se rapan las sienes; 24 todos los reyes de Arabia, todos los reyes de los varios pueblos que habitan en el desierto; 25 todos los reyes de Zimri, todos los reyes de Elam, todos los reyes de Media, 26 todos los reyes del norte, cercanos y lejanos, unos tras otros, y todos los reinos que hay sobre la faz de la tierra. Finalmente, la beberá el rey de Babilonia.
27 «Tú, Jeremías, les dirás: “Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos, el Dios de Israel: Beban, y embriáguense. Vomiten, y cáiganse, y no vuelvan a levantarse, por causa de la espada que yo lanzo contra ustedes.” 28 Y si no quieren tomar ni beber de la copa que les ofreces, les dirás que yo, el Señor de los ejércitos, he dicho que tienen que beberla. 29 Porque yo he comenzado ya a castigar a la ciudad donde se invoca mi nombre, y ninguno de ustedes saldrá bien librado. Yo estoy descargando la espada sobre todos los habitantes de la tierra.”
—Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos.
30 »Tú, Jeremías, profetiza contra ellos todas estas palabras. Diles que yo, el Señor, les haré oír mi voz desde lo alto, desde mi santa morada; ¡lanzaré un fuerte rugido contra mi pueblo! Será como los cantos del lagar, contra todos los habitantes de la tierra. 31 El estruendo de mi voz se oirá hasta lo último de la tierra, porque yo, el Señor, he entablado un juicio contra las naciones. Yo soy el Juez de la humanidad entera, y dejaré que la espada acabe con los malvados.»
—Palabra del Señor.
32 Así ha dicho el Señor de los ejércitos:
«Miren, el mal cundirá de nación en nación. ¡Una gran tempestad se levanta desde los extremos de la tierra! 33 Cuando llegue el día, los cadáveres de aquellos a quienes el Señor quite la vida quedarán esparcidos de un extremo al otro de la tierra. Nadie lamentará su muerte, ni nadie los recogerá ni los enterrará. ¡Se quedarán tirados sobre el suelo, como estiércol! 34 Ustedes, pastores, ¡lancen gritos de dolor! Y ustedes, encargados del rebaño, ¡revuélquense en el polvo! ¡Ya el tiempo se ha cumplido para que sean degollados y esparcidos, y caerán como vasijas de gran precio! 35 ¡Ninguno de ustedes escapará con vida!»
36 ¡Puede oírse la gritería de los pastores! ¡Los encargados del rebaño gimen de dolor! Y es que el Señor dejó secos sus pastos. 37 Los pastos más delicados han sido destruidos por el ardor de la ira del Señor. 38 El Señor ha abandonado a su pueblo, como un león que abandona su guarida. La ira del Señor y la espada del enemigo han dejado asolada la tierra.

El enemigo que viene del norte
25 El año cuarto del reinado de Joaquim, hijo de Josías, en Judá, el Señor dirigió a Jeremías un mensaje acerca de todo el pueblo de Judá. Ése era el primer año del reinado de Nabucodonosor en Babilonia. 2 El profeta Jeremías comunicó el mensaje a todo el pueblo de Judá y a los habitantes de Jerusalén. Dijo: 3 «Desde el año trece del reinado de Josías, hijo de Amón, en Judá, hasta ahora, es decir, desde hace veintitrés años, el Señor se ha dirigido a mí, y yo les he hablado a ustedes una y otra vez; pero ustedes no me han hecho caso. 4 Y a pesar de que una y otra vez el Señor les ha enviado sus siervos los profetas, ustedes no han hecho caso, ni han querido prestar ninguna atención y obedecer. 5 Ellos les han dicho: “Dejen su mala conducta y sus malas acciones; así podrán vivir en la tierra que el Señor les dio para siempre a ustedes y a sus antepasados. 6 No sigan a otros dioses; no les den culto ni los adoren. No irriten al Señor adorando dioses hechos por ustedes mismos, y él no les enviará ningún mal.” 7 Y ahora, el Señor dice: “Ustedes no han querido hacerme caso; me irritan adorando dioses hechos por ustedes mismos, y esto será para su propio mal.”
8 »Por eso dice el Señor todopoderoso: “Ya que ustedes no han hecho caso a mis advertencias, 9 voy a llamar a todos los pueblos del norte y a mi servidor Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, para que vengan y ataquen a este país, a todos sus habitantes y a todas las naciones vecinas. Los voy a destruir completamente. Los convertiré para siempre en ruinas, en algo que cause terror y espanto. 10 Voy a hacer que entre ellos no vuelvan a oírse cantos de fiesta y alegría, ni cantos de bodas, ni el sonido de las piedras de moler, ni que vuelva a verse la luz de las lámparas. 11 Todo este país quedará destruido y convertido en ruinas. Durante setenta años estas naciones estarán sometidas al rey de Babilonia. 12 Y cuando se completen los setenta años, pediré cuentas de sus pecados al rey de Babilonia y a su nación, el país de los caldeos, y lo destruiré para siempre. Yo, el Señor, lo afirmo. 13 Haré caer sobre ese país todo lo que he anunciado y está escrito en este libro: todo lo que Jeremías ha dicho en mi nombre contra todas las naciones. 14 Grandes naciones y reyes poderosos los someterán también a ellos. Así les daré el pago que merecen sus acciones.”»
Castigo de las naciones
15 El Señor, el Dios de Israel, me dijo: «Mira esta copa llena del vino de mi ira. Tómala y dásela a beber a todas las naciones a las que yo te envíe. 16 Cuando beban de ella, comenzarán a vomitar y se pondrán como locos a causa de la guerra que les voy a enviar.»
17 Yo tomé la copa, de la mano del Señor, y se la di a beber a todas las naciones a las que el Señor me envió. 18 Se la di a beber a Jerusalén y a las ciudades de Judá, junto con sus reyes y jefes, para destruirlas y dejarlas convertidas en ruinas, en algo que causara terror y espanto, en el ejemplo de maldición que aún hoy siguen siendo. 19 Igualmente se la di a beber al faraón, rey de Egipto, y a sus funcionarios y jefes, y a todo su pueblo, 20 y a la gente de diversas razas que hay allí; a todos los reyes del país de Us y de la región de los filisteos: Ascalón, Gaza, Ecrón y lo que queda de Asdod; 21 a Edom, Moab y Amón; 22 a todos los reyes de Tiro y de Sidón; a todos los reyes de los países del mar Mediterráneo; 23 a las tribus de Dedán, Temá y Buz, y a los pueblos que se afeitan las sienes; 24 a todos los reyes de Arabia; a todos los reyes de las diversas razas que viven en el desierto; 25 a todos los reyes de Zimrí, Elam y Media: 26 a todos los reyes del norte, cercanos o lejanos uno del otro. Es decir, a todos los reinos de la tierra. Por último beberá el rey de Babilonia.
27 Luego me dijo el Señor: «Diles que yo, el Señor todopoderoso, el Dios de Israel, les ordeno que beban hasta que se emborrachen y vomiten y caigan al suelo para no levantarse, por causa de la guerra que les voy a enviar. 28 Y si no quieren recibir de ti la copa y beberla, diles: “El Señor todopoderoso dice: Tendrán que beberla de todos modos. 29 Pues comenzaré a enviar mis castigos sobre la ciudad que me está consagrada. ¿Y creen ustedes que van a quedar sin castigo? Pues no se quedarán sin él, porque voy a enviar la guerra a todos los habitantes de la tierra. Yo, el Señor todopoderoso, lo afirmo.”
30 »Tú, Jeremías, anúnciales en mi nombre todas esas cosas. Diles:
»“El Señor lanza su voz de trueno
desde lo alto, desde el santo lugar donde vive.
Pues contra su rebaño
grita como los que pisan las uvas,
contra todos los habitantes de la tierra.
31 El estruendo llega hasta el extremo de la tierra,
porque el Señor va a entablar un proceso contra las naciones,
va a llamar a juicio a todos los mortales,
a condenar a muerte a los malvados.
El Señor lo afirma.”»
32 El Señor todopoderoso dice:
«La calamidad va a llegar
a una nación tras otra;
una terrible tormenta se levanta
desde el extremo de la tierra.»
33 Los que el Señor haga morir ese día,
quedarán tendidos de un extremo a otro de la tierra.
Nadie llorará por ellos,
nadie recogerá sus cadáveres para enterrarlos;
quedarán tendidos en el suelo como estiércol.
34 ¡Griten, pastores, griten de dolor!
¡Ustedes, que guían el rebaño, revuélquense en el suelo!
Pues ha llegado el momento de la matanza
y a ustedes los matarán como a carneros gordos.
35 Los pastores no podrán huir,
los que guían el rebaño no podrán escapar.
36 Los pastores gritan,
gritan de dolor los que guían el rebaño,
porque el Señor ha destruido sus pastos.
37 El Señor se enojó y destruyó sus hermosos campos.
38 Salió como un león de su guarida
y el país de ellos quedó convertido en ruinas,
pues se encendió la ira del Señor
y envió una guerra terrible.

Seventy Years of Captivity
25 The word came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim(A) son of Josiah king of Judah, which was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar(B) king of Babylon. 2 So Jeremiah the prophet said to all the people of Judah(C) and to all those living in Jerusalem: 3 For twenty-three years—from the thirteenth year of Josiah(D) son of Amon king of Judah until this very day—the word of the Lord has come to me and I have spoken to you again and again,(E) but you have not listened.(F)
4 And though the Lord has sent all his servants the prophets(G) to you again and again, you have not listened or paid any attention.(H) 5 They said, “Turn(I) now, each of you, from your evil ways and your evil practices, and you can stay in the land(J) the Lord gave to you and your ancestors for ever and ever. 6 Do not follow other gods(K) to serve and worship them; do not arouse my anger with what your hands have made. Then I will not harm you.”
7 “But you did not listen to me,” declares the Lord, “and you have aroused(L) my anger with what your hands have made,(M) and you have brought harm(N) to yourselves.”
8 Therefore the Lord Almighty says this: “Because you have not listened to my words, 9 I will summon(O) all the peoples of the north(P) and my servant(Q) Nebuchadnezzar(R) king of Babylon,” declares the Lord, “and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy[a](S) them and make them an object of horror and scorn,(T) and an everlasting ruin.(U) 10 I will banish from them the sounds(V) of joy and gladness, the voices of bride and bridegroom,(W) the sound of millstones(X) and the light of the lamp.(Y) 11 This whole country will become a desolate wasteland,(Z) and these nations will serve(AA) the king of Babylon seventy years.(AB)
12 “But when the seventy years(AC) are fulfilled, I will punish the king of Babylon(AD) and his nation, the land of the Babylonians,[b] for their guilt,” declares the Lord, “and will make it desolate(AE) forever. 13 I will bring on that land all the things I have spoken against it, all that are written(AF) in this book and prophesied by Jeremiah against all the nations. 14 They themselves will be enslaved(AG) by many nations(AH) and great kings; I will repay(AI) them according to their deeds and the work of their hands.”
The Cup of God’s Wrath
15 This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, said to me: “Take from my hand this cup(AJ) filled with the wine of my wrath and make all the nations to whom I send(AK) you drink it. 16 When they drink(AL) it, they will stagger(AM) and go mad(AN) because of the sword(AO) I will send among them.”
17 So I took the cup from the Lord’s hand and made all the nations to whom he sent(AP) me drink it: 18 Jerusalem(AQ) and the towns of Judah, its kings and officials, to make them a ruin(AR) and an object of horror and scorn,(AS) a curse[c](AT)—as they are today;(AU) 19 Pharaoh king(AV) of Egypt,(AW) his attendants, his officials and all his people, 20 and all the foreign people there; all the kings of Uz;(AX) all the kings of the Philistines(AY) (those of Ashkelon,(AZ) Gaza,(BA) Ekron, and the people left at Ashdod); 21 Edom,(BB) Moab(BC) and Ammon;(BD) 22 all the kings of Tyre(BE) and Sidon;(BF) the kings of the coastlands(BG) across the sea; 23 Dedan,(BH) Tema,(BI) Buz(BJ) and all who are in distant places[d];(BK) 24 all the kings of Arabia(BL) and all the kings of the foreign people(BM) who live in the wilderness; 25 all the kings of Zimri,(BN) Elam(BO) and Media;(BP) 26 and all the kings of the north,(BQ) near and far, one after the other—all the kingdoms(BR) on the face of the earth. And after all of them, the king of Sheshak[e](BS) will drink it too.
27 “Then tell them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Drink, get drunk(BT) and vomit, and fall to rise no more because of the sword(BU) I will send among you.’ 28 But if they refuse to take the cup from your hand and drink(BV), tell them, ‘This is what the Lord Almighty says: You must drink it! 29 See, I am beginning to bring disaster(BW) on the city that bears my Name,(BX) and will you indeed go unpunished?(BY) You will not go unpunished, for I am calling down a sword(BZ) on all(CA) who live on the earth,(CB) declares the Lord Almighty.’
30 “Now prophesy all these words against them and say to them:
“‘The Lord will roar(CC) from on high;
he will thunder(CD) from his holy dwelling(CE)
and roar mightily against his land.
He will shout like those who tread(CF) the grapes,
shout against all who live on the earth.
31 The tumult(CG) will resound to the ends of the earth,
for the Lord will bring charges(CH) against the nations;
he will bring judgment(CI) on all(CJ) mankind
and put the wicked to the sword,(CK)’”
declares the Lord.
32 This is what the Lord Almighty says:
“Look! Disaster(CL) is spreading
from nation to nation;(CM)
a mighty storm(CN) is rising
from the ends of the earth.”(CO)
33 At that time those slain(CP) by the Lord will be everywhere—from one end of the earth to the other. They will not be mourned or gathered(CQ) up or buried,(CR) but will be like dung lying on the ground.
34 Weep and wail, you shepherds;(CS)
roll(CT) in the dust, you leaders of the flock.
For your time to be slaughtered(CU) has come;
you will fall like the best of the rams.[f](CV)
35 The shepherds will have nowhere to flee,
the leaders of the flock no place to escape.(CW)
36 Hear the cry(CX) of the shepherds,(CY)
the wailing of the leaders of the flock,
for the Lord is destroying their pasture.
37 The peaceful meadows will be laid waste
because of the fierce anger of the Lord.
38 Like a lion(CZ) he will leave his lair,
and their land will become desolate(DA)
because of the sword[g] of the oppressor(DB)
and because of the Lord’s fierce anger.(DC)

25 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that was the first year of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon;
2 The which Jeremiah the prophet spake unto all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying,
3 From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, even unto this day, that is the three and twentieth year, the word of the Lord hath come unto me, and I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye have not hearkened.
4 And the Lord hath sent unto you all his servants the prophets, rising early and sending them; but ye have not hearkened, nor inclined your ear to hear.
5 They said, Turn ye again now every one from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that the Lord hath given unto you and to your fathers for ever and ever:
6 And go not after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, and provoke me not to anger with the works of your hands; and I will do you no hurt.
7 Yet ye have not hearkened unto me, saith the Lord; that ye might provoke me to anger with the works of your hands to your own hurt.
8 Therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Because ye have not heard my words,
9 Behold, I will send and take all the families of the north, saith the Lord, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof, and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations.
10 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle.
11 And this whole land shall be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations shall serve the king of Babylon seventy years.
12 And it shall come to pass, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon, and that nation, saith the Lord, for their iniquity, and the land of the Chaldeans, and will make it perpetual desolations.
13 And I will bring upon that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah hath prophesied against all the nations.
14 For many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of them also: and I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the works of their own hands.
15 For thus saith the Lord God of Israel unto me; Take the wine cup of this fury at my hand, and cause all the nations, to whom I send thee, to drink it.
16 And they shall drink, and be moved, and be mad, because of the sword that I will send among them.
17 Then took I the cup at the Lord's hand, and made all the nations to drink, unto whom the Lord had sent me:
18 To wit, Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, and the kings thereof, and the princes thereof, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, an hissing, and a curse; as it is this day;
19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, and his servants, and his princes, and all his people;
20 And all the mingled people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, and all the kings of the land of the Philistines, and Ashkelon, and Azzah, and Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod,
21 Edom, and Moab, and the children of Ammon,
22 And all the kings of Tyrus, and all the kings of Zidon, and the kings of the isles which are beyond the sea,
23 Dedan, and Tema, and Buz, and all that are in the utmost corners,
24 And all the kings of Arabia, and all the kings of the mingled people that dwell in the desert,
25 And all the kings of Zimri, and all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes,
26 And all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another, and all the kingdoms of the world, which are upon the face of the earth: and the king of Sheshach shall drink after them.
27 Therefore thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel; Drink ye, and be drunken, and spue, and fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you.
28 And it shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at thine hand to drink, then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Ye shall certainly drink.
29 For, lo, I begin to bring evil on the city which is called by my name, and should ye be utterly unpunished? Ye shall not be unpunished: for I will call for a sword upon all the inhabitants of the earth, saith the Lord of hosts.
30 Therefore prophesy thou against them all these words, and say unto them, The Lord shall roar from on high, and utter his voice from his holy habitation; he shall mightily roar upon his habitation; he shall give a shout, as they that tread the grapes, against all the inhabitants of the earth.
31 A noise shall come even to the ends of the earth; for the Lord hath a controversy with the nations, he will plead with all flesh; he will give them that are wicked to the sword, saith the Lord.
32 Thus saith the Lord of hosts, Behold, evil shall go forth from nation to nation, and a great whirlwind shall be raised up from the coasts of the earth.
33 And the slain of the Lord shall be at that day from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth: they shall not be lamented, neither gathered, nor buried; they shall be dung upon the ground.
34 Howl, ye shepherds, and cry; and wallow yourselves in the ashes, ye principal of the flock: for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions are accomplished; and ye shall fall like a pleasant vessel.
35 And the shepherds shall have no way to flee, nor the principal of the flock to escape.
36 A voice of the cry of the shepherds, and an howling of the principal of the flock, shall be heard: for the Lord hath spoiled their pasture.
37 And the peaceable habitations are cut down because of the fierce anger of the Lord.
38 He hath forsaken his covert, as the lion: for their land is desolate because of the fierceness of the oppressor, and because of his fierce anger.
