⁹ And the Lord said to me, ^(A)“A conspiracy has been found among the men of Judah and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ¹⁰ They have turned back to ^(B)the iniquities of their forefathers who refused to hear My words, and they have gone after other gods to serve them; the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken My covenant which I made with their fathers.”

¹¹ Therefore thus says the Lord: “Behold, I will surely bring calamity on them which they will not be able to ^[a]escape; and ^(C)though they cry out to Me, I will not listen to them.

Fifth Trumpet: The Locusts from the Bottomless Pit

9 Then the fifth angel sounded: ^(A)And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to ^(B)the ^[a]bottomless pit.

¹¹ And they had as king over them ^(A)the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in Hebrew is ^[a]Abaddon, but in Greek he has the name ^[b]Apollyon.

The Beast from the Sea

13 Then ^[a]I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw ^(A)a beast rising up out of the sea, ^(B)having ^[b]seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a ^(C)blasphemous name.

⁴ So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, ^(A)“Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

The Beast from the Earth

¹¹ Then I saw another beast ^(A)coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon.

¹² And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, ^(A)whose deadly wound was healed.

¹⁵ He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak ^(A)and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.

¹⁶ He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, ^(A)to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads,
