²¹ Death has climbed in through our windows^(A)
    and has entered our fortresses;
it has removed the children from the streets
    and the young men^(B) from the public squares.

¹¹ But I am full of the wrath^(A) of the Lord,
    and I cannot hold it in.^(B)

“Pour it out on the children in the street
    and on the young men^(C) gathered together;
both husband and wife will be caught in it,
    and the old, those weighed down with years.^(D)

⁷ I will winnow^(A) them with a winnowing fork
    at the city gates of the land.
I will bring bereavement^(B) and destruction on my people,^(C)
    for they have not changed their ways.^(D)

¹¹ For the Lord has given the command,
    and he will smash^(C) the great house^(D) into pieces
    and the small house into bits.^(E)

¹⁴ “So then, son of man, prophesy
    and strike your hands^(A) together.
Let the sword strike twice,
    even three times.
It is a sword for slaughter—
    a sword for great slaughter,
    closing in on them from every side.^(B)
15 So that hearts may melt with fear^(C)
    and the fallen be many,
I have stationed the sword for slaughter^[a]
    at all their gates.
Look! It is forged to strike like lightning,
    it is grasped for slaughter.^(D)
