⁵ If you really change^(A) your ways and your actions and deal with each other justly,^{(B) 6} if you do not oppress^(C) the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow and do not shed innocent blood^(D) in this place, and if you do not follow other gods^(E) to your own harm, ⁷ then I will let you live in this place, in the land^(F) I gave your ancestors^(G) for ever and ever. ⁸ But look, you are trusting^(H) in deceptive^(I) words that are worthless.

⁹ “‘Will you steal^(J) and murder,^(K) commit adultery^(L) and perjury,^[a](M) burn incense to Baal^(N) and follow other gods^(O) you have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand^(P) before me in this house,^(Q) which bears my Name, and say, “We are safe”—safe to do all these detestable things?^{(R) 11} Has this house,^(S) which bears my Name, become a den of robbers^(T) to you?
