^4 (A)Do not trust in these deceptive words: ‘This is the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord.’

⁹ And do not presume to say to yourselves, ^(A)‘We have Abraham as our father,’ for I tell you, God is able from ^(B)these stones to raise up children for Abraham. ¹⁰ Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees. ^(C)Every tree therefore that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.

¹⁹ You have profaned me among my people ^(A)for handfuls of barley ^(B)and for pieces of bread, putting to death souls who should not die and keeping alive souls who should not live, by your lying to my people, who listen to lies.

³¹ “Send to all the exiles, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord concerning ^(A)Shemaiah of Nehelam: Because ^(B)Shemaiah had prophesied to you ^(C)when I did not send him, and has made you trust in a lie,

⁸ Bear fruits ^(A)in keeping with repentance. And do not begin to say to yourselves, ^(B)‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I tell you, God is able from ^(C)these stones to raise up children for Abraham.

¹⁵ And Jeremiah the prophet said to the prophet Hananiah, “Listen, Hananiah, ^(A)the Lord has not sent you, ^(B)and you have made this people trust in a lie.

⁸ “Behold, you trust in deceptive words to no avail. ^9 (A)Will you steal, murder, commit adultery, ^(B)swear falsely, ^(C)make offerings to Baal, ^(D)and go after other gods that you have not known, ¹⁰ and then come and stand before me in this house, ^(E)which is called by my name, and say, ‘We are delivered!’—only to go on doing all these abominations? ^11 (F)Has this house, ^(G)which is called by my name, ^(H)become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it, declares the Lord. ¹² Go now to ^(I)my place that was in Shiloh, ^(J)where I made my name dwell at first, and ^(K)see what I did to it because of the evil of my people Israel.
