³ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ^(A)Amend your ways and your deeds, and I will let you dwell in this place.

¹³ Now therefore ^(A)mend your ways and your deeds, ^(B)and obey the voice of the Lord your God, ^(C)and the Lord will relent of the disaster that he has pronounced against you.

¹¹ Now, therefore, say to the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: ‘Thus says the Lord, Behold, I am shaping disaster against you and devising a plan against you. ^(A)Return, every one from his evil way, and ^(B)amend your ways and your deeds.’

⁴ then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, ^(A)his blood shall be upon his own head. ^5 (B)He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. ^6 (C)But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, ^(D)that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.

^7 (E)“So you, ^(F)son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. ^(G)Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. ^8 (H)If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, ^(I)and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, ^(J)that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. ^9 (K)But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, ^(L)that person shall die in his iniquity, ^(M)but you will have delivered your soul.

Why Will You Die, Israel?

¹⁰ “And you, ^(N)son of man, say to the house of Israel, Thus have you said: ‘Surely our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and ^(O)we rot away because of them. ^(P)How then can we live?’ ¹¹ Say to them, ^(Q)As I live, declares the Lord God, ^(R)I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live; ^(S)turn back, turn back from your evil ways, ^(T)for why will you die, O house of Israel?

³⁰ “Therefore ^(A)I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, declares the Lord God. ^(B)Repent and turn from all your transgressions, ^(C)lest iniquity be your ruin.^{[a] 31 (D)}Cast away from you all the transgressions that you have committed, and ^(E)make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! ^(F)Why will you die, O house of Israel?

⁵ “For if you truly ^(A)amend your ways and your deeds, if you truly ^(B)execute justice one with another, ⁶ if you ^(C)do not oppress the sojourner, the fatherless, or the widow, ^(D)or shed innocent blood in this place, ^(E)and if you do not go after other gods to your own harm, ^7 (F)then I will let you dwell in this place, ^(G)in the land that I gave of old to your fathers forever.
