⁶ By the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine had become so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land.

² In the ^(A)eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the ^[a]city was penetrated.

Judgment on Judah and Jerusalem

⁹ “My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon, and he is likely to die from hunger in the place where he is. For there is ^(A)no more bread in the city.”

³ By the ninth day of the ^(A)fourth month the famine had become so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land.

¹⁹ “Thus says the Lord of hosts:

²¹ For thus says the Lord God: “How much more it shall be when ^(A)I send My four ^[a]severe judgments on Jerusalem—the sword and famine and wild beasts and pestilence—to cut off man and beast from it?

¹⁰ Therefore fathers ^(A)shall eat their sons in your midst, and sons shall eat their fathers; and I will execute judgments among you, and all of you who remain I will ^(B)scatter to all the winds.

¹¹ ‘Therefore, as I live,’ says the Lord God, ‘surely, because you have ^(C)defiled My sanctuary with all your ^(D)detestable things and with all your abominations, therefore I will also diminish you; ^(E)My eye will not spare, nor will I have any pity. ^12 (F)One-third of you shall die of the pestilence, and be consumed with famine in your midst; and one-third shall fall by the sword all around you; and ^(G)I will scatter another third to all the winds, and I will draw out a sword after ^(H)them.
