^(B)The Lord has stirred up the spirit of the kings of ^(C)the Medes, because ^(D)his purpose concerning Babylon is to destroy it, ^(E)for that is the vengeance of the Lord, the vengeance for ^(F)his temple.

Daniel's Prayer for His People

9 ^(A)In the first year of ^(B)Darius the son of Ahasuerus, by descent a ^(C)Mede, who was made king over the realm of the ^(D)Chaldeans—

²⁰ As for ^(A)the ram that you saw with the two horns, these are the kings of ^(B)Media and Persia.

³ I raised my eyes and saw, and behold, ^(A)a ram standing on the bank of the canal. It had two horns, and both horns were high, but one was higher than the other, and the higher one came up last. ⁴ I saw ^(B)the ram charging westward and northward and southward. No ^(C)beast ^(D)could stand before him, ^(E)and there was no one who could rescue from his power. ^(F)He did as he pleased and ^(G)became great.

⁸ Now, O king, establish ^(A)the injunction and sign the document, so that it cannot be changed, according to ^(B)the law of ^(C)the Medes and the Persians, ^(D)which cannot be revoked.”

²⁸ Peres, your kingdom is divided and given to ^(A)the Medes and ^(B)Persians.”^[a]

²⁹ Then ^(C)Belshazzar gave the command, and Daniel ^(D)was clothed with purple, a chain of gold was put around his neck, and a proclamation was made about him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

^30 (E)That very night ^(F)Belshazzar the ^(G)Chaldean king was killed.
