17 Then ^(A)one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying ^[a]to me, “Come, ^(B)I will show you the judgment of ^(C)the great harlot ^(D)who sits on many waters,

¹⁵ Then he said to me, ^(A)“The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, ^(B)are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues.

³⁶ Therefore thus says the Lord:

The Ark Prepared^(A)

¹³ And God said to Noah, ^(B)“The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; ^(C)and behold, ^(D)I will destroy them with the earth.

^19 (A)“They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! ^(B)For in one hour she ^[a]is made desolate.’

¹¹ “And ^(A)the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: ^12 (B)merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; ¹³ and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and ^(C)souls of men. ¹⁴ The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have ^[a]gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all. ¹⁵ The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, ¹⁶ and saying, ‘Alas, alas, ^(D)that great city ^(E)that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! ^17 (F)For in one hour such great riches ^[b]came to nothing.’ ^(G)Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance

¹¹ Woe to them! For they have gone in the way ^(A)of Cain, ^(B)have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished ^(C)in the rebellion of Korah.

Apostates Depraved and Doomed

¹² These are ^[a]spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried ^[b]about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; ^13 (D)raging waves of the sea, ^(E)foaming up their own shame; wandering stars ^(F)for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.
