^40 (A)As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and their neighboring cities, declares the Lord, ^(B)so no man shall dwell there, and no son of man shall sojourn in her.

²⁴ Then ^(A)the Lord rained on Sodom and Gomorrah sulfur and fire from the Lord out of heaven. ²⁵ And he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground.

⁷ just as ^(A)Sodom and Gomorrah and ^(B)the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and ^(C)pursued unnatural desire,^[a] serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

⁶ if by ^(A)turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, ^(B)making them an example of ^(C)what is going to happen to the ungodly;^[a]

²⁸ Likewise, just as it was in the days of ^(A)Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, ^29 (B)but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all— ³⁰ so will it be ^(C)on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

^18 (A)As when Sodom and Gomorrah and their ^(B)neighboring cities were overthrown, says the Lord, ^(C)no man shall dwell there, ^(D)no man shall sojourn in her.

⁹ And ^(D)the kings of the earth, who committed sexual immorality and lived in luxury with her, ^(E)will weep and wail over her ^(F)when they see the smoke of her burning.

⁸ and their dead bodies will lie in the street of the great city that symbolically^[a] is called ^(A)Sodom and ^(B)Egypt, where their Lord was crucified.
