⁶ “The swift cannot flee^(A)
    nor the strong escape.
In the north by the River Euphrates^(B)
    they stumble and fall.^(C)

¹² The nations will hear of your shame;
    your cries will fill the earth.
One warrior will stumble over another;
    both will fall^(A) down together.”

“Strike the tops of the pillars
    so that the thresholds shake.
Bring them down on the heads^(A) of all the people;
    those who are left I will kill with the sword.
Not one will get away,
    none will escape.^(B)
2 Though they dig down to the depths below,^(C)
    from there my hand will take them.
Though they climb up to the heavens above,^(D)
    from there I will bring them down.^(E)
3 Though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel,^(F)
    there I will hunt them down and seize them.^(G)
Though they hide from my eyes at the bottom of the sea,^(H)
    there I will command the serpent^(I) to bite them.^(J)

¹⁴ The swift will not escape,^(A)
    the strong^(B) will not muster their strength,
    and the warrior will not save his life.^(C)
15 The archer^(D) will not stand his ground,
    the fleet-footed soldier will not get away,
    and the horseman^(E) will not save his life.^(F)

³² The arrogant^(A) one will stumble and fall^(B)
    and no one will help her up;^(C)
I will kindle a fire^(D) in her towns
    that will consume all who are around her.”

¹⁶ They will stumble^(A) repeatedly;
    they will fall^(B) over each other.
They will say, ‘Get up, let us go back
    to our own people^(C) and our native lands,
    away from the sword of the oppressor.’^(D)

¹⁰ But that day^(A) belongs to the Lord, the Lord Almighty—
    a day of vengeance^(B), for vengeance on his foes.
The sword will devour^(C) till it is satisfied,
    till it has quenched its thirst with blood.^(D)
For the Lord, the Lord Almighty, will offer sacrifice^(E)
    in the land of the north by the River Euphrates.^(F)
