¹⁴ “Announce this in Egypt, and proclaim it in Migdol;
    proclaim it also in Memphis^(A) and Tahpanhes:^(B)
‘Take your positions and get ready,
    for the sword devours^(C) those around you.’

¹⁰ But that day^(A) belongs to the Lord, the Lord Almighty—
    a day of vengeance^(B), for vengeance on his foes.
The sword will devour^(C) till it is satisfied,
    till it has quenched its thirst with blood.^(D)
For the Lord, the Lord Almighty, will offer sacrifice^(E)
    in the land of the north by the River Euphrates.^(F)

¹³ “I am against^(A) you,”
    declares the Lord Almighty.
“I will burn up your chariots in smoke,^(B)
    and the sword^(C) will devour your young lions.
    I will leave you no prey on the earth.
The voices of your messengers
    will no longer be heard.”^(D)

³ “Prepare your shields,^(A) both large and small,
    and march out for battle!
⁴ Harness the horses,
    mount the steeds!
Take your positions
    with helmets on!
Polish^(B) your spears,
    put on your armor!^(C)

³⁰ “In vain I punished your people;
    they did not respond to correction.^(A)
Your sword has devoured your prophets^(B)
    like a ravenous lion.

²⁰ but if you resist and rebel,^(A)
    you will be devoured by the sword.”^(B)
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.^(C)

⁹ Proclaim this among the nations:
    Prepare for war!^(A)
Rouse the warriors!^(B)
    Let all the fighting men draw near and attack.
¹⁰ Beat your plowshares into swords
    and your pruning hooks^(C) into spears.^(D)
Let the weakling^(E) say,
    “I am strong!”^(F)
11 Come quickly, all you nations from every side,
    and assemble^(G) there.

Bring down your warriors,^(H) Lord!

¹² “Let the nations be roused;
    let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat,^(I)
for there I will sit
    to judge^(J) all the nations on every side.
