⁵ Should you then seek great^(A) things for yourself? Do not seek them.^(B) For I will bring disaster^(C) on all people,^(D) declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape^(E) with your life.’”^(F)

¹⁸ I will save^(A) you; you will not fall by the sword^(B) but will escape with your life,^(C) because you trust^(D) in me, declares the Lord.’”

⁵ Keep your lives free from the love of money^(A) and be content with what you have,^(B) because God has said,

Do Not Worry^(A)

²⁵ “Therefore I tell you, do not worry^(B) about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? ²⁶ Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.^(C) Are you not much more valuable than they?^{(D) 27} Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life^[a]?^(E)

²⁸ “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. ²⁹ Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor^(F) was dressed like one of these. ³⁰ If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?^{(G) 31} So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ ³² For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.^(H)

⁹ Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague.^(A) But whoever goes out and surrenders^(B) to the Babylonians who are besieging you will live; they will escape with their lives.^(C)

⁶ But godliness with contentment^(A) is great gain.^{(B) 7} For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it.^{(C) 8} But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.^{(D) 9} Those who want to get rich^(E) fall into temptation and a trap^(F) and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

¹⁶ Live in harmony with one another.^(A) Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.^[a] Do not be conceited.^(B)

² “This is what the Lord says: ‘Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague,^(A) but whoever goes over to the Babylonians^[a] will live. They will escape with their lives; they will live.’^(B)

²⁶ and all the kings of the north,^(A) near and far, one after the other—all the kingdoms^(B) on the face of the earth. And after all of them, the king of Sheshak^[a](C) will drink it too.
