²³ It is because you made offerings ^(A)and because you sinned against the Lord and did not obey the voice of the Lord or walk in his law and in his statutes and in his testimonies ^(B)that this disaster has happened to you, as at this day.”

^11 (A)All Israel has transgressed your law and turned aside, ^(B)refusing to obey your voice. ^(C)And the curse and oath ^(D)that are written in the Law of ^(E)Moses the servant of God have been poured out upon us, because ^(F)we have sinned against him. ¹² He has confirmed his words, which he spoke against us and against ^(G)our rulers who ruled us,^[a] by ^(H)bringing upon us a great calamity. ^(I)For under the whole heaven there has not been done anything like what has been done against Jerusalem.

⁹ Then they will say, ‘Because ^(A)they abandoned the Lord their God who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt and laid hold on other gods and worshiped them and served them. Therefore the Lord has brought all this disaster on them.’”

^18 (A)Did not your fathers act in this way, and did not our God bring all this disaster^[a] on us and on this city? Now you are bringing more wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.”

¹⁶ What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For ^(A)we are the temple of the living God; as God said,

²⁰ No, I imply that what pagans sacrifice ^(A)they offer to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be participants with demons.

^21 (A)“As for the offerings that you offered in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, you and your fathers, your kings and your officials, and the people of the land, ^(B)did not the Lord remember them? Did it not come into his mind?
