¹³ I will punish^(A) those who live in Egypt with the sword,^(B) famine and plague,^(C) as I punished Jerusalem.

²⁷ For I am watching^(A) over them for harm,^(B) not for good; the Jews in Egypt will perish^(C) by sword and famine^(D) until they are all destroyed.^{(E) 28} Those who escape the sword^(F) and return to the land of Judah from Egypt will be very few.^(G) Then the whole remnant^(H) of Judah who came to live in Egypt will know whose word will stand^(I)—mine or theirs.^(J)

¹¹ He will come and attack Egypt,^(A) bringing death^(B) to those destined^(C) for death, captivity to those destined for captivity,^(D) and the sword to those destined for the sword.^(E)

²² therefore this is what the Lord Almighty says: “I will punish them. Their young men^(A) will die by the sword, their sons and daughters by famine.

¹⁸ This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: ‘As my anger and wrath^(A) have been poured out on those who lived in Jerusalem,^(B) so will my wrath be poured out on you when you go to Egypt. You will be a curse^[a](C) and an object of horror,^(D) a curse^[b] and an object of reproach;^(E) you will never see this place again.’^(F)

¹⁰ I will send the sword,^(A) famine^(B) and plague^(C) against them until they are destroyed from the land I gave to them and their ancestors.^(D)’”

⁹ Whoever stays in this city will die by the sword, famine or plague.^(A) But whoever goes out and surrenders^(B) to the Babylonians who are besieging you will live; they will escape with their lives.^(C)
