The Fall of Jerusalem(A)

39 In the (B)ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem, and besieged it. In the (C)eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the [a]city was penetrated.

(D)Then all the princes of the king of Babylon came in and sat in the Middle Gate: Nergal-Sharezer, Samgar-Nebo, Sarsechim, [b]Rabsaris, Nergal-Sarezer, [c]Rabmag, with the rest of the princes of the king of Babylon.

(E)So it was, when Zedekiah the king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, that they fled and went out of the city by night, by way of the king’s garden, by the gate between the two walls. And he went out by way of the [d]plain. But the Chaldean army pursued them and (F)overtook Zedekiah in the plains of Jericho. And when they had captured him, they brought him up to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, to (G)Riblah in the land of Hamath, where he pronounced judgment on him. Then the king of Babylon killed the sons of Zedekiah before his (H)eyes in Riblah; the king of Babylon also killed all the (I)nobles of Judah. Moreover (J)he put out Zedekiah’s eyes, and bound him with bronze [e]fetters to carry him off to Babylon. (K)And the Chaldeans burned the king’s house and the houses of the people with (L)fire, and broke down the (M)walls of Jerusalem. (N)Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive to Babylon the remnant of the people who remained in the city and those who (O)defected to him, with the rest of the people who remained.

First Bowl: Loathsome Sores

So the first went and poured out his bowl (A)upon the earth, and a [a]foul and (B)loathsome sore came upon the men (C)who had the mark of the beast and those (D)who worshiped his image.

Second Bowl: The Sea Turns to Blood

Then the second angel poured out his bowl (E)on the sea, and (F)it became blood as of a dead man; (G)and every living creature in the sea died.

Third Bowl: The Waters Turn to Blood

Then the third angel poured out his bowl (H)on the rivers and springs of water, (I)and they became blood. And I heard the angel of the waters saying:

(J)“You are righteous, [b]O Lord,
The One (K)who is and who [c]was and who is to be,
Because You have judged these things.
For (L)they have shed the blood (M)of saints and prophets,
(N)And You have given them blood to drink.
[d]For it is their just due.”

And I heard [e]another from the altar saying, “Even so, (O)Lord God Almighty, (P)true and righteous are Your judgments.”

Fourth Bowl: Men Are Scorched

Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl (Q)on the sun, (R)and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. And men were scorched with great heat, and they (S)blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; (T)and they did not repent (U)and give Him glory.

Fifth Bowl: Darkness and Pain

10 Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl (V)on the throne of the beast, (W)and his kingdom became full of darkness; (X)and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. 11 They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds.

Sixth Bowl: Euphrates Dried Up

12 Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl (Y)on the great river Euphrates, (Z)and its water was dried up, (AA)so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13 And I saw three unclean (AB)spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of (AC)the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of (AD)the false prophet. 14 For they are spirits of demons, (AE)performing signs, which go out to the kings [f]of the earth and of (AF)the whole world, to gather them to (AG)the battle of that great day of God Almighty.

15 (AH)“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, (AI)lest he walk naked and they see his shame.”

16 (AJ)And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, [g]Armageddon.

Seventh Bowl: The Earth Utterly Shaken

17 Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, (AK)“It is done!” 18 And (AL)there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; (AM)and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake (AN)as had not occurred since men were on the earth. 19 Now (AO)the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And (AP)great Babylon (AQ)was remembered before God, (AR)to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. 20 Then (AS)every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21 And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great.

Now it came to pass in the (A)ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and encamped against it; and they built a siege wall against it all around. So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. By the fourth month, on the ninth day of the month, the famine had become so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land. Then the city wall was broken through, and all the men of war fled and went out of the city at night by way of the gate between the two walls, which was by the king’s garden, even though the Chaldeans were near the city all around.
