¹⁷ And they departed and dwelt in the habitation of ^(A)Chimham, which is near Bethlehem, as they went on their way to ^(B)Egypt,

¹⁴ saying, ‘No, but we will go to the land of ^(A)Egypt where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor be hungry for bread, and there we will dwell’—

³⁷ Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, near the grave of my father and mother. But here is your servant ^(A)Chimham; let him cross over with my lord the king, and do for him what seems good to you.”

³⁸ And the king answered, “Chimham shall cross over with me, and I will do for him what seems good to you. Now whatever you request of me, I will do for you.”

^7 (A)So they went to the land of Egypt, for they did not obey the voice of the Lord. And they went as far as ^(B)Tahpanhes.

¹⁹ “The Lord has said concerning you, O remnant of Judah, ^(A)‘Do not go to Egypt!’ Know certainly that I have ^[a]admonished you this day.
