²⁰ In that day ^(A)the Lord will ^(B)shave with a razor that is ^(C)hired beyond ^(D)the River^[a]—with the king of Assyria—the head and the hair of the feet, and it will sweep away the beard also.

^21 (E)In that day a man will keep alive a young cow and two sheep, ²² and because of the abundance of milk that they give, he will eat curds, for everyone who is left in the land will eat ^(F)curds and honey.

²³ In that day every place where there used to be a thousand vines, worth a thousand shekels^[b] of silver, will become ^(G)briers and thorns. ^24 (H)With bow and arrows a man will come there, for all the land will be briers and thorns. ^25 (I)And as for all the hills that used to be hoed with a hoe, you will not come there for fear ^(J)of briers and thorns, but they will become a place where cattle are let loose and where sheep tread.

²³ the whole land burned out with brimstone and ^(A)salt, nothing sown and nothing growing, where no plant can sprout, ^(B)an overthrow like that of Sodom and Gomorrah, ^(C)Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in his anger and wrath— ²⁴ all the nations ^(D)will say, ^(E)‘Why has the Lord done thus to this land? What caused the heat of this great anger?’ ²⁵ Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, ²⁶ and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them. ²⁷ Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, ^(F)bringing upon it all the curses written in this book, ²⁸ and the Lord ^(G)uprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and ^(H)cast them into another land, as they are this day.’
