⁵ Then Zedekiah the king said, “Look, he is in your hand. For the king can do nothing against you.”

³⁹ And I am weak today, though anointed king; and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, ^(A)are too harsh for me. ^(B)The Lord shall repay the evildoer according to his wickedness.”

¹² From then on Pilate sought to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you let this Man go, you are not Caesar’s friend. ^(A)Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”

^13 (B)When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus out and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha. ¹⁴ Now ^(C)it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold your King!”

¹⁵ But they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!”

Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?”

The chief priests answered, ^(D)“We have no king but Caesar!”

^16 (E)Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. Then they took Jesus ^[a]and led Him away.

²² And David said, ^(A)“What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should be adversaries to me today? ^(B)Shall any man be put to death today in Israel? For do I not know that today I am king over Israel?”

⁹ Then Achish answered and said to David, “I know that you are as good in my sight ^(A)as an angel of God; nevertheless ^(B)the princes of the Philistines have said, ‘He shall not go up with us to the battle.’

^24 (A)Then Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I ^(B)feared the people and obeyed their voice.
