⁴ Then the officials^(A) said to the king, “This man should be put to death.^(B) He is discouraging^(C) the soldiers who are left in this city, as well as all the people, by the things he is saying to them. This man is not seeking the good of these people but their ruin.”

¹¹ Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man should be sentenced to death^(A) because he has prophesied against this city. You have heard it with your own ears!”^(B)

²⁰ They brought them before the magistrates and said, “These men are Jews, and are throwing our city into an uproar^(A)

Amos and Amaziah

¹⁰ Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel^(A) sent a message to Jeroboam^(B) king of Israel: “Amos is raising a conspiracy^(C) against you in the very heart of Israel. The land cannot bear all his words.^(D)

⁹ They were all trying to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will get too weak for the work, and it will not be completed.”

But I prayed, “Now strengthen my hands.”

²⁰ Ahab said to Elijah, “So you have found me, my enemy!”^(A)

“I have found you,” he answered, “because you have sold^(B) yourself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord.

¹⁷ When he saw Elijah, he said to him, “Is that you, you troubler^(A) of Israel?”

¹⁸ “I have not made trouble for Israel,” Elijah replied. “But you^(B) and your father’s family have. You have abandoned^(C) the Lord’s commands and have followed the Baals.

⁴ But the king of Egypt said, “Moses and Aaron, why are you taking the people away from their labor?^(A) Get back to your work!”

²² But we want to hear what your views are, for we know that people everywhere are talking against this sect.”^(A)
