¹³ Then they drew Jeremiah up with ^(A)ropes and lifted him out of the cistern. And Jeremiah remained in the ^(B)court of the guard.

²¹ So King Zedekiah gave orders, and they committed Jeremiah to ^(A)the court of the guard. And a loaf of bread was given him daily from the bakers' street, ^(B)until all the bread of the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in ^(C)the court of the guard.

³⁰ He lived there two whole years at his own expense,^[a] and ^(A)welcomed all who came to him,

¹⁶ And when we came into Rome, ^(A)Paul was allowed to stay by himself, with the soldier who guarded him.

³⁵ he said, “I will give you a hearing ^(A)when your accusers arrive.” And he commanded him to be guarded in Herod's ^(B)praetorium.

²³ Then he gave orders to the centurion that he ^(A)should be kept in custody but have some liberty, and that ^(B)none of his friends should be prevented from attending to his needs.

²⁴ After some days Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, and he sent for Paul and heard him speak about ^(C)faith ^(D)in Christ Jesus. ²⁵ And as he reasoned ^(E)about righteousness and self-control and the coming judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, “Go away for the present. ^(F)When I get an opportunity I will summon you.” ²⁶ At the same time he hoped ^(G)that money would be given him by Paul. So he sent for him often and conversed with him.

¹⁴ sent and took Jeremiah from ^(A)the court of the guard. They entrusted him to ^(B)Gedaliah the son of ^(C)Ahikam, son of ^(D)Shaphan, that he should take him home. So ^(E)he lived among the people.

¹⁵ The word of the Lord came to Jeremiah ^(F)while he was shut up in the court of the guard: ¹⁶ “Go, and say to ^(G)Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ^(H)Behold, I will fulfill my words against this city for harm and ^(I)not for good, and they shall be accomplished before you on that day. ¹⁷ But I will deliver you on that day, declares the Lord, and you shall not be given into the hand of the men ^(J)of whom you are afraid. ¹⁸ For I will surely save you, and you shall not fall by the sword, but you shall have your ^(K)life as a prize of war, ^(L)because you have put your trust in me, declares the Lord.’”

²⁸ And Jeremiah remained ^(A)in the court of the guard until the day that Jerusalem was taken.

⁶ So they took Jeremiah ^(A)and cast him into the cistern of Malchiah, the king's son, which was in ^(B)the court of the guard, letting Jeremiah down ^(C)by ropes. ^(D)And there was no water in the cistern, but only mud, and ^(E)Jeremiah sank in the mud.
