¹⁵ And the officials were enraged at Jeremiah, and they beat him ^(A)and imprisoned him in the house of Jonathan the secretary, for it had been made a prison.

²⁶ then you shall say to them, ^(A)‘I made a humble plea to the king that he would not send me back to the house of Jonathan to die there.’”

¹⁸ they arrested the apostles and ^(A)put them in the public prison.

^35 (A)And the tenants took his servants and beat one, killed another, and ^(B)stoned another.

Jeremiah Spared from Death

^16 (A)Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, ^(B)“This man does not deserve the sentence of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”

Jeremiah Persecuted by Pashhur

20 Now ^(A)Pashhur the priest, the son of ^(B)Immer, who was ^(C)chief officer in the house of the Lord, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. ² Then ^(D)Pashhur beat Jeremiah the prophet, and put him ^(E)in the stocks that were in the upper ^(F)Benjamin Gate of the house of the Lord. ³ The next day, when ^(G)Pashhur released Jeremiah from the stocks, Jeremiah said to him, “The Lord does not call your name ^(H)Pashhur, but Terror on Every Side.

²⁶ and say, ‘Thus says the king, ^(A)Put this fellow in prison and feed him with meager rations of bread and water until I return in peace.’”

¹⁰ Then Asa was angry with the seer and put him ^(A)in the stocks in prison, for he was in a rage with him because of this. And Asa inflicted cruelties upon some of the people at the same time.

²⁰ And Joseph's master took him and ^(A)put him into the ^(B)prison, the place where the king's prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison.

¹⁰ Do not fear what you are about to suffer. Behold, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, ^(A)that you may be tested, and for ^(B)ten days ^(C)you will have tribulation. ^(D)Be faithful ^(E)unto death, and I will give you ^(F)the crown of life.
