⁶ so you are to go, and ^(A)on a day of fasting in the hearing of all the people in the Lord's house you shall read the words of the Lord from the scroll that you have written at my dictation. You shall read them also in the hearing of all the men of Judah who come out of their cities.

⁸ And Baruch the son of Neriah did all that Jeremiah the prophet ordered him about reading from the scroll the words of the Lord in the Lord's house.

^9 (A)In the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, ^(B)in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem and all the people who came from the cities of Judah to Jerusalem ^(C)proclaimed a fast before the Lord.

² “Thus says the Lord: ^(A)Stand in the court of the Lord's house, and speak to all the cities of Judah that come to worship in the house of the Lord ^(B)all the words that I command you to speak to them; ^(C)do not hold back a word.

² and say, ^(A)‘Hear the word of the Lord, O king of Judah, who sits on the throne of David, you, and your servants, and your people who enter these gates.

^2 (A)“Stand in the gate of the Lord's house, and proclaim there this word, and say, Hear the word of the Lord, all you men of Judah who enter these gates to worship the Lord.

²⁹ “And it shall be a statute to you forever that ^(A)in the seventh month, on the tenth day of the month, you shall ^(B)afflict yourselves^[a] and shall do no work, either ^(C)the native or the stranger who sojourns among you. ³⁰ For on this day shall atonement be made for you ^(D)to cleanse you. You shall be clean before the Lord from all your sins. ^31 (E)It is a Sabbath of solemn rest to you, and you shall ^(F)afflict yourselves; it is a statute forever.

³ And he said to me, “Son of man, I send you to the people of Israel, to ^(A)nations of rebels, who have rebelled against me. ^(B)They and their fathers have transgressed against me to this very day. ⁴ The descendants also are ^(C)impudent and stubborn: I send you to them, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God.’ ⁵ And ^(D)whether they hear or refuse to hear (for they are ^(E)a rebellious house) ^(F)they will know that a prophet has been among them. ⁶ And you, son of man, ^(G)be not afraid of them, nor be afraid of their words, ^(H)though briers and thorns are with you and you sit on ^(I)scorpions.^[a] Be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, for they are a rebellious house. ⁷ And you shall speak my words to them, ^(J)whether they hear or refuse to hear, for they are a rebellious house.

²⁷ “Now ^(A)on the tenth day of this seventh month is the Day of Atonement. It shall be for you a time of holy convocation, and you shall afflict yourselves^[a] and present a food offering to the Lord. ²⁸ And you shall not do any work on that very day, for it is a Day of Atonement, to make atonement for you before the Lord your God. ²⁹ For whoever is not afflicted^[b] on that very day ^(B)shall be cut off from his people. ³⁰ And whoever does any work on that very day, that person I will destroy from among his people. ³¹ You shall not do any work. It is a statute forever throughout your generations in all your dwelling places. ³² It shall be to you a Sabbath of solemn rest, and you shall afflict yourselves. On the ninth day of the month beginning at evening, from evening to evening shall you keep your Sabbath.”

⁹ Since much time had passed, and the voyage was now dangerous because even ^(A)the Fast^[a] was already over, Paul advised them,
