¹⁵ I have also sent to you all My ^(A)servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, ^(B)‘Turn now everyone from his evil way, amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them; then you will ^(C)dwell in the land which I have given you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear, nor obeyed Me.

¹¹ “Now therefore, speak to the men of Judah and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord: “Behold, I am fashioning a disaster and devising a plan against you. ^(A)Return now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings ^(B)good.” ’ ”

^30 (A)“Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways,” says the Lord God. ^(B)“Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin. ^31 (C)Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a ^(D)new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel? ³² For ^(E)I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God. “Therefore turn and ^(F)live!”

⁵ They said, ^(A)‘Repent now everyone of his evil way and his evil doings, and dwell in the land that the Lord has given to you and your fathers forever and ever. ⁶ Do not go after other gods to serve them and worship them, and do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands; and I will not harm you.’

²⁰ and say to them, ^(A)‘Hear the word of the Lord, you kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, who enter by these gates. ²¹ Thus says the Lord: ^(B)“Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden on the Sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; ²² nor carry a burden out of your houses on the Sabbath day, nor do any work, but hallow the Sabbath day, as I ^(C)commanded your fathers. ^23 (D)But they did not obey nor incline their ear, but ^[a]made their neck stiff, that they might not hear nor receive instruction.

²⁴ “And it shall be, ^(E)if you heed Me carefully,” says the Lord, “to bring no burden through the gates of this city on the ^(F)Sabbath day, but hallow the Sabbath day, to do no work in it, ^25 (G)then shall enter the gates of this city kings and princes sitting on the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their princes, accompanied by the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and this city shall remain forever.

³ Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: ^(A)“Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. ^4 (B)Do not trust in these lying words, saying, ‘The temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord, the temple of the Lord are these.’

⁵ “For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly ^(C)execute ^[a]judgment between a man and his neighbor, ⁶ if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, ^(D)or walk after other gods to your hurt, ^7 (E)then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in ^(F)the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.

²⁰ but ^(A)declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do ^(B)works befitting repentance.

Jesus Laments over Jerusalem^(A)

^34 (B)“O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! ³⁵ See! ^(C)Your house is left to you desolate; and ^[a]assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, ^(D)‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’ ”

³ Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return ^(A)to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts. ⁴ “Do not be like your fathers, ^(B)to whom the former prophets preached, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: ^(C)“Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.” ’ But they did not hear nor heed Me,” says the Lord.
