¹⁹ the princes of Judah, the princes of Jerusalem, the ^[a]eunuchs, the priests, and all the people of the land who passed between the parts of the calf—

¹⁰ Now when all the princes and all the people, who had entered into the covenant, heard that everyone should set free his male and female slaves, that no one should keep them in bondage anymore, they obeyed and let them go.

² (This happened after ^(A)Jeconiah^[a] the king, the ^(B)queen mother, the ^[b]eunuchs, the princes of Judah and Jerusalem, the craftsmen, and the smiths had departed from Jerusalem.)

Sorrow for Israel’s Sins

¹² And He has ^(A)confirmed His words, which He spoke against us and against our judges who judged us, by bringing upon us a great disaster; ^(B)for under the whole heaven such has never been done as what has been done to Jerusalem.

^6 (A)Neither have we heeded Your servants the prophets, who spoke in Your name to our kings and our princes, to our fathers and all the people of the land.

²⁷ Her ^(A)princes in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, to shed blood, to destroy ^[a]people, and to get dishonest gain. ^28 (B)Her prophets plastered them with untempered mortar, ^(C)seeing false visions, and divining ^(D)lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord had not spoken. ²⁹ The people of the land have used oppressions, committed robbery, and mistreated the poor and needy; and they wrongfully ^(E)oppress the stranger. ^30 (F)So I sought for a man among them who would ^(G)make a wall, and ^(H)stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. ³¹ Therefore I have ^(I)poured out My indignation on them; I have consumed them with the fire of My wrath; and I have recompensed ^(J)their deeds on their own heads,” says the Lord God.
