Faithless Israel Called to Repentance

⁶ The Lord said to me in the days of ^(A)King Josiah: “Have you seen what she did, that faithless one, Israel, ^(B)how she went up on every high hill and under every green tree, and there ^(C)played the whore?

^11 (A)“Her sister Oholibah saw this, and she became ^(B)more corrupt than her sister^[a] in her lust and in her whoring, which was worse than that of her sister.

²⁸ For when I had brought them into the land that ^(A)I swore to give them, then wherever they saw ^(B)any high hill or any leafy tree, there they offered their sacrifices and there they presented ^(C)the provocation of their offering; there they sent up their pleasing aromas, and there they poured out their drink offerings.

³¹ building your vaulted chamber at the head of every street, and making your lofty place in every square. Yet you were not like a prostitute, ^(A)because you scorned payment.

²⁴ you built yourself ^(A)a vaulted chamber and made yourself a lofty place in every square. ²⁵ At the head of every street ^(B)you built your lofty place and made ^(C)your beauty an abomination, ^(D)offering yourself^[a] to any passerby and multiplying your whoring.

² while ^(A)their children remember their altars and their ^(B)Asherim, ^(C)beside every green tree and on the high hills,

^24 (A)But they did not obey or incline their ear, ^(B)but walked in their own counsels and ^(C)the stubbornness of their evil hearts, and ^(D)went backward and not forward.

¹¹ And the Lord said to me, ^(A)“Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than treacherous Judah. ¹² Go, and proclaim these words toward ^(B)the north, and say,

⁸ She saw that for all the adulteries of that faithless one, Israel, ^(A)I had sent her away with ^(B)a decree of divorce. ^(C)Yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but she too went ^(D)and played the whore.
