⁵ to heed the words of My servants the prophets ^(A)whom I sent to you, both rising up early and sending them (but you have not heeded),

Hear the Heavenly Voice

²⁵ See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For ^(A)if they did not escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from heaven,

¹¹ “But they refused to heed, ^(A)shrugged^[a] their shoulders, and ^(B)stopped^[b] their ears so that they could not hear. ¹² Yes, they made their ^(C)hearts like flint, ^(D)refusing to hear the law and the words which the Lord of hosts had sent by His Spirit through the former prophets. ^(E)Thus great wrath came from the Lord of hosts. ¹³ Therefore it happened, that just as He proclaimed and they would not hear, so ^(F)they called out and I would not listen,” says the Lord of hosts.

⁴ “Do not be like your fathers, ^(A)to whom the former prophets preached, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: ^(B)“Turn now from your evil ways and your evil deeds.” ’ But they did not hear nor heed Me,” says the Lord.

“So they returned and said:

⁴ However ^(A)I have sent to you all My servants the prophets, rising early and sending them, saying, “Oh, do not do this abominable thing that I hate!” ⁵ But they did not listen or incline their ear to turn from their wickedness, to burn no incense to other gods.

¹⁴ “The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, which he commanded his sons, not to drink wine, are performed; for to this day they drink none, and obey their father’s commandment. ^(A)But although I have spoken to you, ^(B)rising early and speaking, you did not ^[a]obey Me. ¹⁵ I have also sent to you all My ^(C)servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them, saying, ^(D)‘Turn now everyone from his evil way, amend your doings, and do not go after other gods to serve them; then you will ^(E)dwell in the land which I have given you and your fathers.’ But you have not inclined your ear, nor obeyed Me. ¹⁶ Surely the sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have performed the commandment of their ^(F)father, which he commanded them, but this people has not obeyed Me.” ’

¹⁷ “Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘You have not obeyed Me in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother and every one to his neighbor. ^(A)Behold, I proclaim liberty to you,’ says the Lord—^(B)‘to the sword, to pestilence, and to famine! And I will deliver you to ^(C)trouble among all the kingdoms of the earth.
