¹⁹ because they did not pay attention to my words, declares the Lord, ^(A)that I persistently sent to you by my servants the prophets, but you would not listen, declares the Lord.’

^5 (A)and to listen to the words of my servants the prophets whom I send to you ^(B)urgently, ^(C)though you have not listened,

²⁵ See that you do not refuse him who is speaking. For ^(A)if they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject him who warns from heaven.

¹¹ But ^(A)they refused to pay attention ^(B)and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear.^{[a] 12 (C)}They made their hearts diamond-hard ^(D)lest they should hear the law and the words that the Lord of hosts had sent ^(E)by his Spirit through ^(F)the former prophets. ^(G)Therefore great anger came from the Lord of hosts. ^13 (H)“As I^[b] called, and they would not hear, ^(I)so they called, and I would not hear,” says the Lord of hosts,

^4 (A)Do not be like your fathers, ^(B)to whom the former prophets cried out, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, ^(C)Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But ^(D)they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord. ⁵ Your fathers, where are they? And ^(E)the prophets, do they live forever? ^6 (F)But my words and my statutes, which I commanded ^(G)my servants the prophets, did they not ^(H)overtake your fathers? So they repented and said, ^(I)‘As the Lord of hosts purposed to deal with us for ^(J)our ways and ^(K)deeds, so has he dealt with us.’”

¹⁴ The command that Jonadab the son of Rechab gave to his sons, to drink no wine, has been kept, and they drink none to this day, for they have obeyed their father's command. I have spoken to you ^(A)persistently, but you have not listened to me. ¹⁵ I have sent to you all my servants the prophets, sending them ^(B)persistently, saying, ^(C)‘Turn now every one of you from his evil way, and amend your deeds, and ^(D)do not go after other gods to serve them, and then you shall dwell in the land that I gave to you and your fathers.’ ^(E)But you did not incline your ear or listen to me. ¹⁶ The sons of Jonadab the son of Rechab have kept the command that their father gave them, but this people has not obeyed me.

¹⁷ “Therefore, thus says the Lord: You have not obeyed me ^(A)by proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother and to his neighbor; ^(B)behold, I proclaim to you liberty ^(C)to the sword, to pestilence, and to famine, declares the Lord. ^(D)I will make you a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth.

^33 (A)They have turned to me their back and not their face. And though I have taught them ^(B)persistently, they have not listened ^(C)to receive instruction.
