¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Hear now, Hananiah, the Lord has not sent you, but ^(A)you make this people trust in a ^(B)lie.

¹⁴ And the Lord said to me, ^(A)“The prophets prophesy lies in My name. ^(B)I have not sent them, commanded them, nor spoken to them; they prophesy to you a false vision, ^[a]divination, a worthless thing, and the ^(C)deceit of their heart. ¹⁵ Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in My name, whom I did not send, ^(D)and who say, ‘Sword and famine shall not be in this land’—‘By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed!

¹⁵ for I have ^(A)not sent them,” says the Lord, “yet they prophesy a lie in My name, that I may drive you out, and that you may perish, you and the prophets who prophesy to you.”

² “Son of man, prophesy ^(A)against the prophets of Israel who prophesy, and say to ^(B)those who prophesy out of their own ^(C)heart,^[a] ‘Hear the word of the Lord!’ ”

³ Thus says the Lord God: “Woe to the foolish prophets, who follow their own spirit and have seen ^[b]nothing!

^28 (A)Her prophets plastered them with untempered mortar, ^(B)seeing false visions, and divining ^(C)lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord God,’ when the Lord had not spoken.

²² “Because with ^(A)lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and you have ^(B)strengthened the hands of the wicked, so that he does not turn from his wicked way to save his life.
