¹⁵ Then the prophet Jeremiah said to Hananiah the prophet, “Listen, Hananiah! The Lord has not sent^(A) you, yet you have persuaded this nation to trust in lies.^(B)

¹⁴ Then the Lord said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies^(A) in my name. I have not sent^(B) them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions,^(C) divinations,^(D) idolatries^[a] and the delusions of their own minds. ¹⁵ Therefore this is what the Lord says about the prophets who are prophesying in my name: I did not send them, yet they are saying, ‘No sword or famine will touch this land.’ Those same prophets will perish^(E) by sword and famine.^(F)

¹⁵ ‘I have not sent^(A) them,’ declares the Lord. ‘They are prophesying lies in my name.^(B) Therefore, I will banish you and you will perish,^(C) both you and the prophets who prophesy to you.’”

² “Son of man, prophesy against the prophets^(A) of Israel who are now prophesying. Say to those who prophesy out of their own imagination:^(B) ‘Hear the word of the Lord!^{(C) 3} This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Woe to the foolish^[a] prophets^(D) who follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!^(E)

²⁸ Her prophets whitewash^(A) these deeds for them by false visions and lying divinations.^(B) They say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says’—when the Lord has not spoken.^(C)

²² Because you disheartened the righteous with your lies,^(A) when I had brought them no grief, and because you encouraged the wicked not to turn from their evil ways and so save their lives,^(B)
