¹⁵ I have not sent them, declares the Lord, but ^(A)they are prophesying falsely in my name, with the result that I will drive you out and you will perish, you and the prophets who are prophesying to you.”

^10 (A)For it is a lie that they are prophesying to you, with the result that you will be removed far from your land, and I will drive you out, and you will perish.

¹⁵ Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name although ^(A)I did not send them, and who say, ^(B)‘Sword and famine shall not come upon this land’: ^(C)By sword and famine those prophets shall be consumed. ¹⁶ And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem, victims of famine and sword, ^(D)with none to bury them—them, their wives, their sons, and their daughters. For I will pour out their evil upon them.

¹⁶ But as he was speaking, the king said to him, “Have we made you a royal counselor? Stop! Why should you be struck down?” So the prophet stopped, but said, “I know that ^(A)God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this and have not listened to my counsel.”

²⁰ And the beast was captured, and with it ^(A)the false prophet ^(B)who in its presence^[a] had done the signs by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the beast and those who ^(C)worshiped its image. These two were ^(D)thrown alive into the lake of ^(E)fire that burns with sulfur.

¹² It exercises all the authority of the first beast in its presence,^[a] and makes the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, ^(A)whose mortal wound was healed. ^13 (B)It performs great signs, even ^(C)making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, ¹⁴ and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of^[b] the beast ^(D)it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast ^(E)that was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

⁷ Also it was allowed ^(A)to make war on the saints and to conquer them.^[a] And authority was given it over every tribe and people and language and nation, ⁸ and all ^(B)who dwell on earth will worship it, everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in ^(C)the book of life of ^(D)the Lamb ^(E)who was slain.

^3 (A)For the time is coming when people will not endure ^(B)sound^[a] teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, ⁴ and ^(C)will turn away from listening to the truth and ^(D)wander off into myths.
