If you remain,[a] then return to (A)Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, (B)whom the king of Babylon appointed governor of the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people. Or go wherever you think it right to go.” So the captain of the guard gave him an allowance of food and a present, and let him go. Then Jeremiah went to (C)Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, at (D)Mizpah, and lived with him (E)among the people (F)who were left in the land.

(G)When all the captains of the forces in the open country and their men heard that (H)the king of Babylon had appointed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land and had committed to him men, women, and children, those of (I)the poorest of the land who had not been taken into exile to Babylon,

18 And I, behold, I make you this day (A)a fortified city, (B)an iron pillar, and (C)bronze walls, against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, its officials, its priests, and the people of the land. 19 (D)They will fight against you, but they shall not prevail against you, for (E)I am with you, declares the Lord, to deliver you.”

12 And the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, and (A)Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and (B)Achbor the son of (C)Micaiah, and Shaphan the secretary, and Asaiah the king's servant, saying, 13 “Go, inquire of the Lord for me, and for the people, and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found. For great is (D)the wrath of the Lord that is kindled against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”

14 So Hilkiah the priest, and Ahikam, and Achbor, and Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of (E)Tikvah, son of (F)Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe (now she lived in Jerusalem in (G)the Second Quarter), and they talked with her.

20 And he said, (A)“The Jews have agreed to ask you to bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though they were going to inquire somewhat more closely about him. 21 But do not be persuaded by them, for more than forty of their men are lying in ambush for him, who (B)have bound themselves by an oath neither to eat nor drink till they have killed him. And now they are ready, waiting for your consent.” 22 So the tribune dismissed the young man, charging him, “Tell no one that you have informed me of these things.”

Paul Sent to Felix the Governor

23 Then he called two of the centurions and said, “Get ready two hundred soldiers, with seventy horsemen and two hundred spearmen to go as far as Caesarea at the third hour of the night.[a] 24 Also provide mounts for Paul to ride and bring him safely to (C)Felix (D)the governor.” 25 And he wrote a letter to this effect:

26 “Claudius Lysias, to (E)his Excellency the governor Felix, (F)greetings. 27 (G)This man was seized by the Jews and (H)was about to be killed by them (I)when I came upon them with the soldiers and rescued him, (J)having learned that he was a Roman citizen. 28 And (K)desiring to know the charge for which they were accusing him, I brought him down to their council. 29 I found that he was being accused (L)about questions of their law, but (M)charged with nothing deserving death or imprisonment. 30 (N)And when it was disclosed to me (O)that there would be a plot against the man, I sent him to you at once, (P)ordering his accusers also to state before you what they have against him.”

31 So the soldiers, according to their instructions, took Paul and brought him by night to Antipatris. 32 And on the next day they returned to (Q)the barracks, letting the horsemen go on with him. 33 When they had come to Caesarea and delivered the letter to the governor, they presented Paul also before him. 34 On reading the letter, he asked what (R)province he was from. And when he learned (S)that he was from Cilicia, 35 he said, “I will give you a hearing (T)when your accusers arrive.” And he commanded him to be guarded in Herod's (U)praetorium.

15 (A)O Lord, you know;
    (B)remember me and visit me,
    (C)(D)and take vengeance for me on my persecutors.
In your forbearance take me not away;
    (E)know that (F)for your sake I bear reproach.
16 Your words were found, (G)and I ate them,
    and (H)your words became to me a joy
    and the delight of my heart,
(I)for I am called by your name,
    O Lord, God of hosts.
17 (J)I did not sit in the company of revelers,
    nor did I rejoice;
(K)I sat alone, because your hand was upon me,
    for you had filled me with indignation.
18 Why is my pain unceasing,
    (L)my wound incurable,
    refusing to be healed?
Will you be to me (M)like a deceitful brook,
    like waters that fail?

19 Therefore thus says the Lord:
(N)“If you return, I will restore you,
    and you shall (O)stand before me.
If you utter what is precious, and not what is worthless,
    you shall be as my mouth.
They shall turn to you,
    but you shall not turn to them.
20 (P)And I will make you to this people
    a fortified wall of bronze;
they will fight against you,
    (Q)but they shall not prevail over you,
(R)for I am with you
    to save you and deliver you,
declares the Lord.
21 (S)I will deliver you out of the hand of the wicked,
    and redeem you from the grasp of (T)the ruthless.”
