⁷ “But you did not listen to me,” declares the Lord, “and you have aroused^(A) my anger with what your hands have made,^(B) and you have brought harm^(C) to yourselves.”

¹⁵ they have done evil^(A) in my eyes and have aroused^(B) my anger from the day their ancestors came out of Egypt until this day.”

³⁰ “The people of Israel and Judah have done nothing but evil in my sight from their youth;^(A) indeed, the people of Israel have done nothing but arouse my anger^(B) with what their hands have made,^(C) declares the Lord. ³¹ From the day it was built until now, this city^(D) has so aroused my anger and wrath that I must remove^(E) it from my sight. ³² The people of Israel and Judah have provoked^(F) me by all the evil^(G) they have done—they, their kings and officials,^(H) their priests and prophets, the people of Judah and those living in Jerusalem. ³³ They turned their backs^(I) to me and not their faces; though I taught^(J) them again and again, they would not listen or respond to discipline.^(K)

¹⁷ They sacrificed^(A) their sons and daughters in the fire. They practiced divination and sought omens^(B) and sold^(C) themselves to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, arousing his anger.

¹⁸ The children gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough and make cakes to offer to the Queen of Heaven.^(A) They pour out drink offerings^(B) to other gods to arouse^(C) my anger. ¹⁹ But am I the one they are provoking?^(D) declares the Lord. Are they not rather harming themselves, to their own shame?^(E)
