32 Behold, I am against those who prophesy lying dreams, declares the Lord, and who tell them and (A)lead my people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when (B)I did not send them or charge them. So they do not profit this people at all, declares the Lord.

Have you not seen a false vision and uttered a lying divination, (A)whenever you have said, ‘Declares the Lord,’ although I have not spoken?”

Therefore thus says the Lord God: “Because you have uttered falsehood and seen lying visions, therefore behold, (B)I am against you, declares the Lord God. My hand will be against the prophets who see false visions and who give lying divinations. They shall not be in the council of my people, (C)nor be enrolled in the register of the house of Israel, (D)nor shall they enter the land of Israel. (E)And you shall know that I am the Lord God. 10 Precisely because they have misled my people, (F)saying, ‘Peace,’ when there is no peace, and because, when the people build a wall, (G)these prophets smear it with whitewash,[a] 11 say to those who smear it with whitewash that it shall fall! (H)There will be a deluge of rain, and you, O great hailstones, will fall, and a stormy wind break out. 12 And when the wall falls, will it not be said to you, ‘Where is the coating with which you smeared it?’ 13 Therefore thus says the Lord God: (I)I will make a stormy wind break out in my wrath, (J)and there shall be a deluge of rain in my anger, and great hailstones in wrath to make a full end. 14 And I will break down the wall that you have smeared with whitewash, and bring it down to the ground, so that its foundation will be laid bare. When it falls, you shall perish in the midst of it, (K)and you shall know that I am the Lord. 15 Thus will I spend my wrath upon the wall and upon those who have smeared it with whitewash, and I will say to you, The wall is no more, nor those who smeared it, 16 the prophets of Israel who prophesied concerning Jerusalem (L)and saw visions of peace for her, when there was no peace, declares the Lord God.

17 “And you, son of man, (M)set your face against (N)the daughters of your people, (O)who prophesy out of their own hearts. Prophesy against them 18 and say, Thus says the Lord God: Woe to the women (P)who sew magic bands upon all wrists, and (Q)make veils for the heads of persons of every stature, in (R)the hunt for souls! Will you hunt down souls belonging to my people and keep your own souls alive?

Idolatry Cut Off

“And (A)on that day, declares the Lord of hosts, (B)I will cut off the names of the idols from the land, so that (C)they shall be remembered no more. And also (D)I will remove from the land the prophets and the spirit of uncleanness. And if anyone again prophesies, his father and mother who bore him will say to him, (E)‘You shall not live, for you speak lies in the name of the Lord.’ And his father and mother who bore him shall pierce him through when he prophesies.

14 (A)Do not listen to the words of the prophets who are saying to you, ‘You shall not serve the king of Babylon,’ (B)for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you. 15 I have not sent them, declares the Lord, but (C)they are prophesying falsely in my name, with the result that I will drive you out and you will perish, you and the prophets who are prophesying to you.”

16 Then I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, “Thus says the Lord: (D)Do not listen to the words of your prophets who are prophesying to you, saying, (E)‘Behold, the vessels of the Lord's house will now shortly be brought back from Babylon,’ (F)for it is a lie that they are prophesying to you. 17 (G)Do not listen to them; (H)serve the king of Babylon and live. Why should this city (I)become a desolation? 18 If they are prophets, and if the word of the Lord is with them, then (J)let them intercede with the Lord of hosts, (K)that the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem may not go to Babylon. 19 (L)For thus says the Lord of hosts concerning the pillars, the sea, the stands, and the rest of the vessels that are left in this city, 20 which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take away, (M)when he took into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem— 21 thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, (N)concerning the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, in the house of the king of Judah, and in Jerusalem: 22 (O)They shall be carried to Babylon (P)and remain there (Q)until the day when I visit them, declares the Lord. 13 “If a prophet or (A)a dreamer of dreams arises among you and gives you a sign or a wonder, and (B)the sign or wonder that he tells you comes to pass, and if he says, ‘Let us go after other gods,’ which you have not known, ‘and let us serve them,’ you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams. For the Lord your God (C)is testing you, to know whether you love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. You shall (D)walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and (E)hold fast to him. But (F)that prophet or that dreamer of dreams shall be put to death, because he has taught rebellion against the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you out of the house of slavery, to make you leave the way in which the Lord your God commanded you to walk. (G)So you shall purge the evil[a] from your midst.

(H)“If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or (I)the wife you embrace[b] or your friend (J)who is as your own soul entices you secretly, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ (K)which neither you nor your fathers have known, some (L)of the gods of the peoples who are around you, whether near you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other, you shall (M)not yield to him or listen to him, nor (N)shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him. But you shall kill him. (O)Your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. 10 (P)You shall stone him to death with stones, because he sought to draw you away from the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery. 11 And (Q)all Israel shall hear and fear and never again do any such wickedness as this among you.

12 “If you hear in one of your cities, which the Lord your God is giving you to dwell there, 13 that certain (R)worthless fellows have gone out among you and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, ‘Let us go and serve other gods,’ which you have not known, 14 then you shall inquire and make search and ask (S)diligently. And behold, if it be true and certain that such an abomination has been done among you, 15 you shall surely put the inhabitants of that city to the sword, devoting it to destruction,[c] all who are in it and its cattle, with the edge of the sword. 16 You shall gather all its spoil into the midst of its open square and (T)burn the city and all its spoil with fire, as a whole burnt offering to the Lord your God. It shall be a (U)heap forever. It shall not be built again. 17 (V)None of the devoted things shall stick to your hand, (W)that the Lord may turn from the fierceness of his anger and show you mercy and have compassion on you and multiply you, (X)as he swore to your fathers, 18 if you obey the voice of the Lord your God, (Y)keeping all his commandments that I am commanding you today, and doing what is right in the sight of the Lord your God.
