⁹ Then they will answer, ^(A)‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God, and worshiped other gods and served them.’ ”

²⁵ because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath will be poured out on this place, and not be quenched.’ ” ’

^17 (A)because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath shall be aroused against this place and shall not be quenched.’ ” ’

² And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah and ^(A)said to him: “The Lord your God has pronounced this doom on this place. ³ Now the Lord has brought it, and has done just as He said. ^(B)Because you people have sinned against the Lord, and not obeyed His voice, therefore this thing has come upon you.

²⁵ Then people would say: ‘Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord God of their fathers, which He made with them when He brought them out of the land of Egypt; ²⁶ for they went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods that they did not know and that He had not given to them. ²⁷ Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against this land, ^(A)to bring on it every curse that is written in this book. ²⁸ And the Lord ^(B)uprooted them from their land in anger, in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as it is this day.’
