^9 (A)And they will answer, “Because they have forsaken the covenant of the Lord their God and worshiped other gods and served them.”’”

²⁵ Because they have forsaken me and ^(A)have made offerings to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands, therefore ^(B)my wrath will be poured out on this place and will not be quenched.

^17 (A)Because they have forsaken me and have made offerings to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the work of their hands, therefore ^(B)my wrath will be kindled against this place, and it will not be quenched.

⁷ All who found them have devoured them, ^(A)and their enemies have said, ‘We are not guilty, for ^(B)they have sinned against the Lord, ^(C)their habitation of righteousness, the Lord, ^(D)the hope of their fathers.’

² The captain of the guard took Jeremiah and said to him, ^(A)“The Lord your God pronounced this disaster against this place. ³ The Lord has brought it about, and has done as he said. ^(B)Because you sinned against the Lord and did not obey his voice, this thing has come upon you.

²⁵ Then people will say, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt, ²⁶ and went and served other gods and worshiped them, gods whom they had not known and whom he had not allotted to them. ²⁷ Therefore the anger of the Lord was kindled against this land, ^(A)bringing upon it all the curses written in this book, ²⁸ and the Lord ^(B)uprooted them from their land in anger and fury and great wrath, and ^(C)cast them into another land, as they are this day.’
