³^(B)I will appoint over them four kinds of destroyers, declares the Lord: the sword to kill, the dogs to tear, and ^(C)the birds of the air ^(D)and the beasts of the earth to devour and destroy. ⁴^(E)And I will make them a horror to all the kingdoms of the earth because of what ^(F)Manasseh the son of Hezekiah, king of Judah, did in Jerusalem.

⁹With hooks ^(A)they put him in a cage^[a]
    and ^(B)brought him to the king of Babylon;
    they brought him into custody,
that his voice should no more be heard
    on ^(C)the mountains of Israel.

¹⁰Your mother was ^(D)like a vine in a vineyard^[b]
    planted by the water,
^(E)fruitful and full of branches
    ^(F)by reason of abundant water.
¹¹Its strong stems became
    rulers' scepters;
it towered aloft
    among the thick boughs;^[c]
it was seen in its height
    with the mass of its branches.
¹²But the vine was plucked up in fury,
    cast down to the ground;
^(G)the east wind dried up its fruit;
    they were stripped off and withered.
As for its strong stem,
    fire consumed it.
¹³^(H)Now it is planted in the wilderness,
    in a dry and thirsty land.
¹⁴^(I)And fire has gone out from the stem of its shoots,
    has consumed its fruit,
^(J)so that there remains in it no strong stem,
    no scepter for ruling.

This is ^(K)a lamentation and has become a lamentation.

⁹^(A)Jehoiachin was eighteen^[a] years old when he became king, and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the sight of the Lord. ¹⁰In ^(B)the spring of the year King Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon, ^(C)with the precious vessels of the house of the Lord, and made his brother ^(D)Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem.
