¹⁹ Your wickedness will punish you;
    your backsliding^(A) will rebuke^(B) you.
Consider then and realize
    how evil and bitter^(C) it is for you
when you forsake^(D) the Lord your God
    and have no awe^(E) of me,”
declares the Lord, the Lord Almighty.

⁹ The look on their faces testifies^(A) against them;
    they parade their sin like Sodom;^(B)
    they do not hide it.
Woe to them!
    They have brought disaster^(C) upon themselves.

⁵ Israel’s arrogance testifies^(A) against them;
    the Israelites, even Ephraim, stumble^(B) in their sin;
    Judah also stumbles with them.^(C)

¹⁸ “Your own conduct and actions^(A)
    have brought this on you.^(B)
This is your punishment.
    How bitter^(C) it is!
    How it pierces to the heart!”

¹⁰ I will turn your religious festivals^(A) into mourning
    and all your singing into weeping.^(B)
I will make all of you wear sackcloth^(C)
    and shave^(D) your heads.
I will make that time like mourning for an only son^(E)
    and the end of it like a bitter day.^(F)

¹⁷ Have you not brought this on yourselves^(A)
    by forsaking^(B) the Lord your God
    when he led you in the way?

⁷ My people are determined to turn^(A) from me.^(B)
    Even though they call me God Most High,
    I will by no means exalt them.

⁶ Therefore a lion from the forest^(A) will attack them,
    a wolf from the desert will ravage^(B) them,
a leopard^(C) will lie in wait near their towns
    to tear to pieces any who venture out,
for their rebellion is great
    and their backslidings many.^(D)
