⁹ I will summon^(A) all the peoples of the north^(B) and my servant^(C) Nebuchadnezzar^(D) king of Babylon,” declares the Lord, “and I will bring them against this land and its inhabitants and against all the surrounding nations. I will completely destroy^[a](E) them and make them an object of horror and scorn,^(F) and an everlasting ruin.^(G)

⁸ I will devastate this city and make it an object of horror and scorn;^(A) all who pass by will be appalled^(B) and will scoff because of all its wounds.^(C)

³⁹ Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads^(A)

²⁸ I will make the land a desolate waste, and her proud strength will come to an end, and the mountains^(A) of Israel will become desolate so that no one will cross them.^{(B) 29} Then they will know that I am the Lord, when I have made the land a desolate^(C) waste because of all the detestable things they have done.’^(D)

¹³ I swear^(A) by myself,” declares the Lord, “that Bozrah^(B) will become a ruin and a curse,^[a] an object of horror^(C) and reproach;^(D) and all its towns will be in ruins forever.”^(E)
