¹⁰ In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing;
    ^(A)Ephraim's whoredom is there; ^(B)Israel is defiled.

¹⁴ But in the prophets of Jerusalem
    I have seen a horrible thing:
^(A)they commit adultery and walk in lies;
    ^(B)they strengthen the hands of evildoers,
    so that no one turns from his evil;
^(C)all of them have become like Sodom to me,
    ^(D)and its inhabitants like Gomorrah.”

¹⁰ For cross to the coasts of ^(A)Cyprus and see,
    or send to ^(B)Kedar and examine with care;
    see if there has been such a thing.
^11 (C)Has a nation changed its gods,
    ^(D)even though they are no gods?
But my people ^(E)have changed their glory
    for ^(F)that which does not profit.
¹² Be appalled, ^(G)O heavens, at this;
    be shocked, be utterly desolate,
declares the Lord,
¹³ for my people have committed two evils:
^(H)they have forsaken ^(I)me,
    the fountain of ^(J)living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
    broken cisterns that can hold no water.

⁸ Who has heard such a thing?
    Who has seen such things?
Shall a land be born in one day?
    Shall a nation be brought forth in one moment?
For ^(A)as soon as Zion was in labor
    she brought forth her children.

^4 (A)Again I will build you, and you shall be built,
    O virgin Israel!
^(B)Again you shall adorn yourself with tambourines
    and shall go forth in ^(C)the dance of the merrymakers.
