^6 (A)He is like a shrub in the desert,
    ^(B)and shall not see any good come.
He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness,
    in ^(C)an uninhabited salt land.

¹⁷ He will not look upon ^(A)the rivers,
    the streams flowing with ^(B)honey and ^(C)curds.

⁴ The wicked are not so,
    but are like ^(A)chaff that the wind drives away.

⁶ Flee! Save yourselves!
    You will be like ^(A)a juniper in the desert!

⁶ to whom I have given ^(A)the arid plain for his home
    and ^(B)the salt land for his dwelling place?

³⁰ he will not depart from darkness;
    the flame will dry up his shoots,
    and by ^(A)the breath of his mouth he will depart.
³¹ Let him not ^(B)trust in emptiness, deceiving himself,
    for emptiness will be his payment.
³² It will be paid in full ^(C)before his time,
    and his branch will not be green.
³³ He will shake off his unripe grape like the vine,
    and cast off his blossom like the olive tree.
³⁴ For ^(D)the company of the godless is barren,
    and ^(E)fire consumes the tents of bribery.

⁹ Therefore, ^(A)as I live,” declares the Lord of hosts,
    the God of Israel,
“Moab shall become ^(B)like Sodom,
    and the Ammonites ^(C)like Gomorrah,
a land possessed by nettles and salt pits,
    and a waste forever.
The remnant of my people shall plunder them,
    and the survivors of my nation shall possess them.”
