⁸ You who are the hope^(A) of Israel,
    its Savior^(B) in times of distress,^(C)
why are you like a stranger in the land,
    like a traveler who stays only a night?

¹³ Lord, you are the hope^(A) of Israel;
    all who forsake^(B) you will be put to shame.
Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust^(C)
    because they have forsaken the Lord,
    the spring of living water.^(D)

⁷ Whoever found them devoured^(A) them;
    their enemies said, ‘We are not guilty,^(B)
for they sinned against the Lord, their verdant pasture,
    the Lord, the hope^(C) of their ancestors.’

¹⁵ and call^(A) on me in the day of trouble;^(B)
    I will deliver^(C) you, and you will honor^(D) me.”

¹⁶ The Lord will roar^(A) from Zion
    and thunder from Jerusalem;^(B)
    the earth and the heavens will tremble.^(C)
But the Lord will be a refuge^(D) for his people,
    a stronghold^(E) for the people of Israel.

²¹ Declare what is to be, present it—
    let them take counsel together.
Who foretold^(A) this long ago,
    who declared it from the distant past?^(B)
Was it not I, the Lord?
    And there is no God apart from me,^(C)
a righteous God^(D) and a Savior;^(E)
    there is none but me.

¹¹ I, even I, am the Lord,^(A)
    and apart from me there is no savior.^(B)

³⁹ The salvation^(A) of the righteous comes from the Lord;
    he is their stronghold in time of trouble.^(B)
40 The Lord helps^(C) them and delivers^(D) them;
    he delivers them from the wicked and saves^(E) them,
    because they take refuge^(F) in him.
